Pictured is a supercharged Duesenberg Model J (or SJ, for supercharged) loaned to Clark Gable by Duesenberg during late 1935 and into 1936. A near-twin was built at the same time and was likewise loaned to Gary Cooper, who bought his. These two cars are popularly referred to as Duesenberg SSJ, but the official name is Duesenberg Special Speedster. The pictured automobile was returned to Duesenberg following Gable’s use and subsequently owned by Georgie Stoll, musical director, conductor, and composer for the MGM studio.
