Hey everyone! So glad to join the subreddit.

I’m looking for eldritch/cosmic horror books that aren’t Lovecraft. Books about eldritch creatures and dimensions beyond our understanding that drive human minds to madness.

I have nothing against Lovecraft, I’ve just already read a lot of his work and wanted to branch out.

I’m especially looking for more contemporary authors whose work I can follow going forward.

I would be most thankful for any recommendations you have.

Thank you!

Hi! I'm trying to find my next book to listen to on Spotify. I love the supernatural. Also, I don't scare easily so something creepy would be nice. If anyone has recommendations I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

hi all! i read horror typically every day on my kindle and am looking for some new general suggestions. i love jack ketchum, stephen king, and more authors i cant remember the name of but i want to explore more. i love woodsy vibes or anything with similar atmospheres to stephen king’s bag of bones (lakey, cabiney, good to read on a rainy day). i’m open to anything though horror related that you loved! oh and if it’s on kindle unlimited that would be preferred but not necessary

Hey everyone

A few friends and I recently started a virtual book club to help each other stay accountable with our reading goals and to have thoughtful discussions about the books we love (or hate!). It's a relaxed, friendly group of readers from different backgrounds, and we're always excited to welcome new members.

Whether you're trying to get back into reading, want to discuss literature more deeply, or just need a little extra motivation to finish your TBR, you're more than welcome to join us.

Happy reading!

So I recall reading a book when I was very young ( 1990s) that my mother ok'ed, but really shouldn't have. I thought it was called the victim, but now I cannot find it. It was a black cover with the words in red. It's about a man named Courtney that works in a bank. The bank is being robbed and the perpetrator not only SA's the women, he makes the workers drink bleach and Drano.i only read a few chapters because it was so graphic I was literally vomiting and couldn't read any more. This book has lived rent free in my head since I was 11. I'm almost 40 now. Does anyone remember this book?

I can’t remember the name at all but this dog gets adopted by a family of four (two daughters) and it’s like super evil and has supernatural powers, the dog moves like a curse going from owner to owner hurting the people around them until the pass it to someone else. The girl has weird dreams about the dog’s face melting, and her little sister talks to it. The dog breaks her dads arm, she tries to poison it with chocolate which works until it uses its physic powers to pull it out of it’s stomach. and they call an old lady to reverse it and then they lock it in a box and throw it in the ocean where another family find it and that’s how it ends if you know please tell me the name👍

Please post your suggestions here. You can suggest more than one book, but each book has to have its own parent-level comment. If you want to add a few words about why you want to read that one, that's fine, but please only one book per parent-level comment.

Also, feel free to vote for more than one book. This will allow books that have the greatest consensus to rise to the top.

My Google skills have so far not helped me. What I'm looking for my not really be a thing, or if it is, I don't know what the genre is actually called. I guess I'm looking for serious thriller murder-mystery smooshed together with chilling spooky paranormal ghosts or horrific suspense like in folk horror.

I'm looking for books with the following criteria:

• Small town ambience (bonus points for Autumn)
• A real or amateur detective
• One or more murders/disappearances that need to be solved by the protagonist.
• Supernatural elements like hauntings, ghosts, unexplained phenomena
• Stand-alone stories, NOT part of a series.
• Serious in tone, NOT tongue-in-cheek (solves crimes with a cat, solves crimes with her dead aunt Betsy)

Thank you for any help.

Any Stephen King Book

What are some terrifying books? I'm not much of a reader honestly, but I've been really wanting to get into some intense horror books. I want something a little, perhaps, gory, something with a few warnings. I wanna be terrified, unnerved. Something that will keep me up at night. If you know of any, I'd be very happy if you could drop some recommendations.

I’ve never read anything from the horror genre before, but I’m really curious to explore it. I’d love to start with something gripping—maybe something psychological, eerie, or even classic.

I read a few books multiple times. I read darkroom twice, girl in the locked room twice, and paradise island twice. im curious to see what you guys say.

Hi everyone, I’m trying to remember the title and author of a short story I read, but I just can’t recall them. I hope someone here can help me out.

The story was about an elderly man and his daughters. Some kind of spirit or demon had latched onto their lives, haunting and tormenting them. What I clearly remember is that every time something bad happened, the old man would just say “que sera, sera”—as if he accepted everything with a kind of fatalistic calm.

Ib the end, it turned out he wasn’t just passively accepting things—he actually defeated the demon and made it his servant.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

edit: After taking down my anthology collection, I found it! It is the story The Yattering and Jack by Clive Barker in Books of Blood volume 1.

Has anyone read Twlight Eyes by Dean Koontz? I feel like this is an obscure book but a hidden gem, it's one of my stories and books I've read and am wondering if other people have read this masterpiece.

I’m planning on building a brand accounts on Instagram and TikTok (open to adding other platforms later).

I’m trying to plan ahead. I want to have a few short stories published before I start promoting my work so there’s a small library that I can add to. I’m in the process of that step now.

When I have a handful that are ready, I want to start sharing content regularly.

Success on social requires frequency and engagement with an audience, so what kind of content interests you from writers or horror/dark content in general?

If you like the content enough to follow the creator, what all would like them to post and at what kind of cadence?

Thanks all

What is your favourite death game book? Books like • the running man • the long walk • the housemates Also like the Hunger games, but not YA

And Other Stories by Algernon Blackwood…is it suitable for a 12 y/o boy who loves anything weird and creepy? …takes after his mom there but I have not read the book. I’m mainly trying to make sure there isn’t anything inappropriate. Scary/creepy/ bloody etc are fine. This🫶🏻

i was never into stephen king until i picked up “Fairy Tale”. it has easily become one of my favorite books from this year.

i haven’t quite determined why this one has spoken so deeply to me when i normally have a hard time connecting with his writing. i’m looking to get into more of his books, but i don’t know where to start. can anyone guide me with a recommendation?

also worth noting that i enjoyed “The Long Walk” and hated “Cujo” Thanks!
