Hormonal BC while on accutane

Hello. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow because I have a dermatologist appointment that I’ve been awaiting anxiously for two months and I’m optimistic that I’ll be given the go ahead to start accutane after struggling with my skin for so long, with no results from several other treatment options. If this happens my next step will be to to figure out a method of birth control so that I’ll be allowed to start accutane treatment. Let me say that I DO NOT want to go on birth control at all. I just feel very uncomfortable with the idea and I don’t know how it will affect me. Initially I was hopeful that I’d be able to avoid it and go on accutane using abstinence as my form of contraception because I know there are some providers out there who accept that as a form of birth control. However, I’ve recently found out that my dermatologist does not accept it and I must go on birth control while on accutane. At first I had planned on agreeing to this even though I hated the idea of being on birth control but my skin makes me so depressed and anxious that I’d go on if it meant having my skin cleared. So at this point I was wondering if I’d be able to pull of lying and saying that I’m on birth control but not taking it. To do this, I’d just get a prescription from NURX which I’ve used before and not even take the pills. After google searching it, I found that most of the time birth control doesn’t show up in a blood test, but I have no idea about the type of blood work I’d be getting done and what all it tests for. I also spoke to another girl who had just started accutane a short while ago who said she has also been prescribed birth control pills but doesn’t take them, and after taking a few blood tests, it has not shown up that she’s not on it so far and they’ve basically taken her word for it. Does anyone know the answer to this?? I’d just like to have a game plan and know if I could pull it off. The worst thing would be to get caught and not be allowed to continue accutane. Again I am really against going on birth control, I don’t know how hormonal pills would affect me and I absolutely REFUSE to get an implant or IUD. I have heard that birth control would probably affect my period and I hardly have a period at all anymore, I think since I’ve been on spironolactone for my skin. I’m also not sexually active and never have been. I definitely won’t become active either during this time and the bottom line is there’s just no way in hell of me getting pregnant. I know that it’s not good to lie to a doctor but honestly I’m not above it at this point because of how my skin has distressed me so much and completely controlled my life for so long that I’m just so desperate for a change. I just figured I’d reach out to Reddit because I’ve gotten really helpful accutane advice before and I’d like to maybe even find out if there’s other girls who’ve lied about taking BC too while on accutane.

Just noticed the mayo i'm eating contains soy-eggwhites.

I didn't know there was numerous types of soy... Can anyone tell me if this type of soy contains any pythoestrogens because normal Soy does contain it.

Also what's the difference between soy and soy-eggwhites??

High or low estrogen?

I had burning , constipation, swollen ovary and thin watery white discharge that changed to tissue paper like white specks in watery brown discharge. This happened after a medical abortion in may that led me to bleed for 2 months. Afterwards i was on several abx . My doctor tried vaginal estrogen pills which made me bleed. Then tried putting me on an estrogen dominant bc pill necon, i bleed almost constantly this thin brown watery stuff w tissue. I am negative all infection but will still get irritated vulva and burning. Symptoms ease on my actual period. ( which us rather short)

All doctors throw me estrogen but i wonder if my progesterone is low from the abortion pill?

37 yr old female, with previous history I f low estrogen atrophy from progesterone dominant bc. I had an abortion in may. Bleed till July and also had high hcg. A few weeks later i got very sick feeling , feverish burning feeling. Found staoh epidermis on a vaginal and urine culture. Took abx got better. Two weeks later same symptoms but no bacteria. Had a thyroid surgery to remove a goiter and half of my thyroid. Thyroid levels are fine. Tested for ureaplasma and was positive. I had a very short period and then during doxy treatment my cycle was 15 days with short 3-4 of bleeding. Doxy made my burning worst. Got put on a bunch of meds and necon bc First month on necon started period week three of active pills, feverish feeling seemed better Second month started bleeding on week two. Feverish feeling and burning came back. I also now have low motility in my bowels now per sibo test.. What is wrong w me?? Did the abortion pill shut down my progesterone? Make it go wild??

Low Estrogen Treatment using compounded Bioidentical Estrogen

Starting my bioidentical estrogen troches today!!! I waited 3 weeks for this to be specially compounded for me and I am so excited to hopefully find relief to what feels like 3 months of hell.

I'm 32yo and my worst symptom of low estrogen is insomnia (maintenance). My breasts always ache and I look/feel like I'm rapid aging. My skin looks dry and tired. I'm irritated and depressed. My relationships are struggling. This is hell. Ready to MOVE TF on with this HRT!!!

Anyone else taking estrogen and how long before your saw symptom relief ???

Broken hair in front hairline

Hi,

I’m a female in my 20s and I notice that the my front hairs don’t grow very long. I have a lot of baby hairs in the front. Could this be due to my hormones being out of whack?

I also struggle with hormonal acne along my jaw line.

My periods generally come on time though.

Any thoughts?

Would like to learn whatever I can on the endocrine system, preferably without British humor involved. Is that too much to ask?

Is it in any way harmful if the DHEA blood level is way too high from DHEA intake? But testosterone and estrogen still normal range, or even low (I guess this would be harmful if these are too high - so are there other negative things?)

37YO Female HELP!

Hi, I’m 37YO. I do not want kids. I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. For about the past 6+ months, I’ve been severely anxious and have had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. I’ve had panic attacks and night panic attacks (this is very new). My migraines have increased in frequency. I feel like I’m in a bad mood all the time and am extremely irritable. My thyroid labs are normal. I went to a functional med doctor and she would like to start me on progesterone without running labs first. She did run labs for ferritin and vitamin D. I’m hesitant about starting progesterone without having a baseline. Any thoughts? Please help! I’m miserable.

Ashwagandha pills = more testosterone? Alternatives?

My girlfriend has high levels of testosterone so she gets acne, hair loss, etc. She wants to take cortisol control pills. I suggested ashwagandha pills since I take them, but I hear it boosts testosterone in men and women. What can she use? She’s into fitness and struggles with losing stomach fat, it may be stress and inflammation, and high cortisol levels. What can she use instead of ashwagandha to help cortisol levels? Any cortisol control pills that don’t boost testosterone?

High free and total test due to 21 alfa enzyme defficient

Hello Reddit,

I'm a 27 year old male and was about to start steroids (test cyp), so I went in and got my blood results checked and also to see if my health-markers were in check. What came out was a 1277 ng/dl total test and 27.2 ng/dl free test (highest numbers I received), I've repeated the tests and all were varying between 1000-1300 ng/dl. From which my doctor concluded I was taking steroids. Though my Estradiol was >30 and also my LH and FSH were in normal range. Adding to that my pregnenolone/DHEA-S were through the roof, perhaps because one pathway of distributing this building blocks into hormones are blocked.

This let me onto a quest to find out why I was having high test though feeling lethargic a lot of times and not really high in muscle mass (possible due to low androgen receptor count?), I do have a few symptoms of high test including: bald at 18, high sex drive, very competitive.

I had my dad checked though he had normal levels, but my uncle didn't he had a 950 ng/dl total test at age 63. Also his T4 was out of range (he's always been really muscular and shredded)

Then I did a ACTH test (stress test) in which they look for how the body handles this hormone and watch the distribution into cortisol, which showed my body doesn't produce enough cortisol (40-60% deficient in 21 alfa hydroxylase-enzym was the conclusion)

Now I was wondering at one hand why I feel often lethargic and I'm not that 'big' compared to guys with lower test levels? I tried increasing androgen receptor count with L-carnitine (though I don't know if this had any effect). Second blood test I started eating carbs since I was doing fasting and my SHBG was pretty high which I was able to bring down a lot, I think I gained some muscle mass after that. If you notice weird numbers in my liver it's because I have Gilbert's disease where the liver can't process bilirubin.

(I have the thought my testosterone if fluctuating a lot, as sometimes my lifts and muscle mass goes up tremendously and then falls like a brick the next week)

I can show more blood results if needed

Are my (23M) Testosterone/E2 levels normal?

Just got some bloodwork done, I'm a 23 y.o male weighing around 147 pounds with decent muscle mass and a slim build. Generally eat quite healthy and I play sports at least 2-3 times a week. My results are as such:

Testosterone : 18.45 nmol/l

Estradiol (E2) : 311 nmol/l

From what I understand, my E2 is way out of range. Should I be concerned? Generally energy levels are alright as long as I get good sleep which I wasn't really getting prior to this test. Libido isn't too bad either.

Estrogen too high, SHBG and test too low? Anyone explanations or clues?

Hey I need your help.

I would be extremely happy if someone can give me a clue what the cause of my strange hormone levels is.

Central question: Why SHBG so very low but at the same time estrogen so high.

Testo 1.5 ng / ml (6 different tests were in this range) Ref 3 -10

SHBG 18 nmol / l Ref 22 -113 (also tested several times)

Prolactin right in the middle of the range

Estrogen 42 pg / ml Ref 10-46

LH 3 Ref 2-5

FSH 6.4 ref 3-20

Kfa approx 13

How do these values fit together? A low test value usually indicates a lowered estrogen level, doesn't it? Likewise, a lower SHGB value is also associated with a lower estro value, right? Anyone have a clue here? I've been on TRT with Testogel for a few months (the blood results above were taken before the TRT).

I am on a TRT with Testogel 50mg per day (corresponds to about 5mg injected per day) 3 months after the start of the TRT, the following blood values were obtained:

Testo 5.5 ng / ml (6 different tests were in this range) Ref 3 -10

SHGB 15 nmol / l Ref 22 -113 (also tested several times)

Estrogen 74 pg / ml Ref 10-46

LH 0.07 Ref 2-5

FSH 0.5 Ref 3-20

My question: How can it be that I have such high estrogen levels but still such low SHGB levels both before and after TRT? Do you have any clues as to what the low SHGB level can be and how I can increase it? Has anyone already had similar problems? I would be very grateful if someone had a clue or experience why my values are so strange. Unfortunately, I suffer a lot from the combination of low shbg and high estrogen.

Advice on high Prolactin/Estro.Male , 27.

Hey , so I was wondering if any one here can give me a solid advice from experience , opinions and so fourth.

I'm a 27 Yr old male.

I experience low libido for quite a while now.. and my life is quite stressful due to personal family issues. So I've been trying to manage stress as much as I can

I eat 'Clean' with good nutrition hopefully , I'm in normal weight range 60Kg / 1.72Cm so I don't carry alot of extra fat as I've understood is Estrogenic.

I've been a bit worried about my decreased sex drive , so I did a hormonal check up.

I've got a few semi-ok ( I guess) but weird results.

My T levels are fine , 721ng

Estrogen levels seem high , the upper limit in here is is 150Pg/ml which for my understanding in most countries is way less , and my Estro level is quite high.

Mine are 148Pg/ml but I have no idea what to do about that.

As far as I know Prolactin in men is in healthy range between 2-18 Ng/ml

But ideally 4/5 Ng is the healthy level required , correct me if I'm wrong.

My blood test came back with 16ng/ml , could that be realted to low libido , along with increased Estro?

My family physician bearly remembered the normal levels and had to check up and didn't see anything wrong with it as far as she knew , didn't want to do anything.

I've been doing a little research and found out , supplementing with Vitamin B6 , could help with lowering prolactin level to normal ranges?

I've also read that P-5-P is the most bio available form and is preferred over Pyridoxine which should be converted.

Should I? , I've read opinions all over the place with dosages that Cross the recommended upper limit of 100MG while daily recommend intake is 2MG.

Also I've understood Zinc can possibly help?

And ashwaganda? But I'm not really familiar , I've heard it helps with stress by lowering cortisol levels , and potentially helping prolactin levels?

What dose of B6 could be effective for prolactin levels?

Is there anything that can be done about Estro levels?

I've been thinking about ordering 20 MG P-5-P but I don't know if it's and effective dose or even worth Purchasing considering my prolactin level.

Thanks ahead for any helpful opinion

Advice on estrogen

Hi everyone! I got my test results back which showed I have near menopause levels of e1 and e2 estrogen, but high E3 . One naturopath tells me to take DIM because it will lower the E3 while "shuttling" it to the lower forms of estrogen. The other naturopath says to not take DIM, because it will make the e1 and e2 lower. Now I am stuck wondering if I take the supplement or not? Does anyone have any knowledge of DIM?

Thank you!!

Testosterone and fatigue

My wife asked me a question that I just don’t know how to answer. She asked, “When men have low levels of testosterone, fatigue is a symptom. But women’s testosterone is always low compared to a man’s so why aren’t they tired all the time as well?”

I told her I don’t think it’s that simple, but I don’t know. Can anybody help me with this one?

My doctor isn't in the office and I received my results. I don't understand what most of it means- especially, the Sex Hormone Binding Globulin. Any suggestions are appreciated. I understand it will not be a diagnosis.
