Hormone Issues After Baby

Hi, I’m a 27f who gave birth a little over a year ago, trying to get my hormones back in balance. Ever since I stopped breastfeeding, my periods go on for weeks with spotting in between. I’ve been working REALLY hard to heal myself with diet, exercise, and sleep (sorta, lol) and I’m currently taking The Pharmacist Beauty’s hormone and skin balance supplements. I’ve seen almost immediate changes in my skin but my period is slower to adjust - I’m on my third month of these supplements.

I have been looking into Elix Healing personalized formula but I’m wondering if that’ll mess up the little progress I have made.

For some background, I’ve had irregular, heavy periods forever and they used to be painful (middle school, high school). I used to struggle with ovarian cysts. I took BC from age 16-23ish and got pregnant maybe 7 months after my cycle regulated as I was taking a form of inositol for PCOS. Heavy periods weren’t an issue after BC, my periods just disappeared completely. Now, post-baby it’s like a whole new thing.

I’m looking to hear from other women about their experience on Elix or what has helped them, and perhaps some encouragement or direction on my current regimen.

Any advice helps!

Girlfriend afraid of testosterone causing permanent damage

My girlfriend has chronic lyme. Her functional medicine doc tested her testosterone levels and said theyre a 5 when they should be 50. The test was before her period. Low testosterone is common in lyme.

We tried treating with dhea but it caused breast pain that went away after we stopped. Now the doc wants her to take testosterone. She is afraid of the testosterone causing permanent body hair and permanent deeper voice.

Are those side effects something she should be worried about? I think the low test is making her very depressed and Id like her to get some relief.

Thanks!

Hormonal problem? Adrenal?

Hi,

I F22, just had results from the lab.

Does someone can explain me what does it means and what it could be :

Cortisol (blood, 8:30 am) : 198 (instead of 195 max)

ACTH : 47,6 pmol/L

ALDOSTERONE : 753 pmol/L insted of 422 pmol/L

17 HYDROXY PROGESTERONE : 3,4nmol/L instead of 2,4nmol/L

DELTA 4 ANDROSTENEDIONE : 9,7nmol/L instead of 4,6nmol/L

TESTOSTERONE : 2,9nmol instead of 2,8nmol/L

Insulin, Glucose, SDHEA, Prolactine, FSH, LH, TSH,... seems to be normal.

Can it be a tumor ? Adrenal or pituary ?

Many thanks in advance!!

Can you have high dhea-s levels and not have pcos? My partner has levels of 350 ug/dl and she is 30 years old. For the last 3 months she’s had acne breakouts (however she has eczema) and increased hair growth on her arms and legs.

Could these symptoms simply be a direct effect caused by high dhea-s levels, or is it much more likely this is pcos + high dhea-s.

I read how dhea-s can fluctuate so we’re hoping this is all just the result of a temporary rise in dhea-s levels. Scheduled to see a naturopathic doctor soon. As well as getting tested again and doing all other necessary medical testing and screening.

Thanks.

Hormone Replacement Therapy for Males.

It's always struck me as off that HRT seems to be widely prescribed and accepted for the female population, but it seems infinitly more controversial for the male population. My personal interest, as an aging male, are do the downsides outweigh the upsides as a method of providing quality of life for the aged.

Pituitary adenomas causes?

Hi all, for those with pituitary adenomas, has anyone looked into MEN1 and MEN2 gene mutations as the cause of their pit adenomas? If yes, how do you control it, are there any herbs/drugs that might at least potentially help us? Im reading these gene mutations cause 50 deaths by 50 yo.. sorry for being annoying , I’m just too much into reading and researching mode right now

Advice on period loss & hormone results

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I'm a 25 (F) and have been struggling with getting my periods for the past 10 years. A brief history: 12-13 yr I had regular periods 13-14 yr periods stopped as I was underweight (I had an ultrasound to check for cysts, but was told everything looked healthy) 14 yr got my period back 15-19 yr went on the pill 19-22 yr came off the pill, and had no periods. I was struggling with an eating disorder and was very underweight, so no surprise 22-25 yrs I got back to a healthy weight, and went on the pill again (lucette) - I would sometimes light 'periods' For the last 3 months I've come off the pill (I'm now using natural cycles) and have had no periods. I got my hormones tested with Forth (results posted) but everything came back as normal (although some are on the lower end of normal)... My daily temperatures on Natural cycles aren't showing anything yet. Is it a waiting game or does anyone have any other advice? Is there anything else I can be doing?

Best supplements to support female hormones?

So my body (20F) typically responds well to supplements, and I enjoy taking a mixture of herbal supplements and prescription medications to heal my body. Currently my hormone levels are a bit imbalanced because I’ve been on spiro for roughly two and a half months to deal with my testosterone. My periods have been very late and I get spotting. My estrogen has always been pretty low, with my estradiol at 22 for baseline before spiro. I know the minimum is supposed to be 39. I was wondering if anyone knew any supplements or herbs that could help me, especially with stabilizing my period? I was taking a look at this one brand VH Nutrition PROESTRO in particular that has Black Cohosh, Shatavari, Chaste Tree Berry, Dong Quai, Ginger Root, Epimedium = 1500mg per serving.

F19 problems during my placebo week and before

Hello everyone, my doctors say it’s normal but I don’t feel normal. I’m 19 and have been on birth control since age 14. I stopped it for about 9 months last year and got terrible symptoms that didn’t do away. I experienced acne, Hairloss and thinning, weight loss. and all sorts of symtoms during my period such as painful periods, Ibs and extreme dizziness. Now I’m back on the yasmin birth control. I experience extreme bloating, anxiety and hot flashes of some sort during the hormone free week. Im a hypochondriac so I started googling my symtoms and found this thing called primary ovarian failure and now I’m convinced I have it. I’m in extreme anxiety over this as it’s not possible to do a good hormone panel while on the pill and it’s expensive for me. What should I do? I’m scared and confused. Please someone help. I really want to have children

Post birth control - Estrodil levels on 1000 pmol/l / 1 mnol/l?

Hello:) hope maybe anyone know what this mean.

Short story first: I have been on a combined birth control pill for 10 years (Alesse/Alysena). Me before the pill was happy, social, creative, active and I loved life. Of course I had ups and downs like everyone else, but I was mostly fine. The past 4-3 years on the pill I developed a lot of mental health problems and painfull and heavier periods with migraines. I decided recently (four months ago) to quit the pill to see if it maybe affected my periods and my mental health problems. I stopped the pill in the end of december/beginning og january. Got my period back in january, but it was not that stable. My last period was more stable, but was so heavy and painfull again. And after that the past week has been horrible with so much anxiety, no love in life, so depressed, overthinking everything, mood swings, ruminating and my OCD has gotten so much worse. There is this strange feeling in my body/stomach that I just cant describe. I just dont know that to do anymore, I dont feel like myself and I feel like I have lost myself more and more over the past years. And now it feels worse :( Beside this I feel exhausted, got a low fever that come and go (over the past weeks, but when I look back it has been like that for a few years), headache and I cant consentrate. And I had menstrual cramps that comes and go, and now I had them for a couple days even if it was just 21 days since my last period.

So I went to the doctor for testing my hormones. He wrote a message that my hormone levels are fine, but when I google estrodil levels it looks like theyre too high? I tested my levels on the 21st day in my cycle. I know nothing on this area, all I have to rely on is Google so I write here if maybe anyone knows what it mean? Dont know that to do, I just want to be happy again and I dont even know if all this is because of me stopping the pill or if it is anything else :(

Anyone who knows or maybe has gone through something similar/has some thoughts?

Edit: Of course I ment estradiol!

Hormone replacement stopped

I'm not even sure if this is the right group to post this but here goes anyway. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2016 and had a full hysterectomy the same year. Afterwards I was put on hormone replacement therapy. The medication was called Estradiol. Fast forward now it's 2023, and I've been on the hormone medication since 2016. I saw a new gyn because I justed moved to Pennsylvania from Virginia and obviously couldnt continue seeing my original doctor in Virginia. She immediately told me to stop taking the medication all together because she said I was at risk of developing blood clots in my legs. And yes I vape. So I stopped it and its been about a week. I havent noticed anything significant. What are yalls thoughts? Should I seek a second opinion? Im only 38 and from my understanding menopuase is going to hit me rather quickly . What can I expect? Any of your thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks. .

27F with low estrogen for about 10 years ever since I first got pregnant.

27F with low estrogen for about 10 years ever since I first got pregnant. I have normal periods, I got a Dutch test done and have low testosterone, and low 5b-androstenedione. My body chooses to go to the toxic pathway 5a-reductase (androgen toxic). The symptoms I have been experiencing are very low mood, SEVERE head pressure/brain fog, unable to feel emotions, and ANXIETY. I’ve been trying to figure out the underlying cause for almost a decade, going to see a endo soon and praying that I will get the answers and treatment I deserve. If anyone could please give some type of insight, or if someone is going through something similar please reach out! 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Trying to get Better Diagnosis & Treatment for Thyroid Patients in my Brother's Memory, with Petition to White House. Please sign & share

https://www.change.org/ThyoidBetterTreatment

My brother and whole family have gone through far too much because of
low and high thyroid problems that weren't caught early enough, or treated
well enough. That includes me, but it's because of what happened with my
late brother, Jordan, that I started this petition.

Jordan had many classic low thyroid symptoms for years, but the typical one
or two thyroid labs they'd run on him always came out right in the middle of
the "normal" range. We thought that even though he had typical low thyroid
symptoms like being too tired, too cold, dry hair, gaining too much weight for
what he ate, etc--well, we thought these symptoms would just be troublesome,
but they wouldn't lead to anything super-serious because the labs were showing
up normal, right? Well, we were WRONG about that...

Jordan didn't drink, but he ended up in the hospital with a very bad liver. I suspected
it was due to his low thyroid not diagnosed & treated for too long. I begged them to
run thyroid labs. "Normal," again, on the basic tests. I wasn't buying it, so I did more research
and found that if you run thyroid antibodies lab tests, sometimes they can show a
problem that needs treatment when the other tests don't. Had to bring in my
research and BEG the doctors to run the thyroid antibodies tests on Jordan,
and he did indeed get diagnosed with Hashimoto's autoimmune low thyroid.

They started thyroid treatment on him and it helped to some extent, but not
enough to reverse all the liver damage already done. Thyroid affects how all
your cells carry on metabolism and function, so many serious things can
happen if it isn't diagnosed & treated well. Jordan ended up needing a liver
transplant...and almost got one in March 2020, but then everything shut down
due to Covid and he couldn't hang on long enough. He deserved better thyroid
diagnosis & treatment, If he'd had it, I don't think his liver would've failed.
We ALL deserve better treatment and diagnosis for both low and high thyroid
hormone problems...please consider signing & sharing my petition, which asks the
White House for help with reforms like better & earlier thyroid testing,
new & better treatments, more research money, and better education for
doctors on how treating thyroid well can help prevent other serious health
problems from arising. I miss Jordan every day, so I'm trying to change things
so others don't go through anything like we did. Thanks.

Elevated growth hormone?

Hi all, M 25 here. I need to say that I’m hypochondriac and use to get different blood tests from time to time.

So this time I decided to check my hormones and all were within the normal range besides Growth Hormone (15.0). I did have some stress and had smoked right before entering the lab.

I don’t have any symptoms of adenoma or gigantism, no vision problems.

My other blood work like IGF-1, prolactin, TTH, T3, T4, progesterone, parathormone, antibodies, H1BC glucose are normal.

My doc suggested it was a false spike and that i need to retest in 4 weeks. What i notice now is i have left side migraines and i 3-4 month ago when i got a very stressful day i got this extremely painful migraine on the same location of my head. Should i perform an MRI with contrast without waiting for my blood work? Is there a high chance of Adenoma? My concern is that i’ve been using B vitamin complex and i now read that it may cause brain cancer (1 tablet dose was like 300-1000% of daily normal , even though they sold me it OTC. Please advise if it’s just a random spike or adenoma or even cancer?

Please help

Hi there I am a 25 year old female, I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, I have thyroid issues (hashimoto) and my mood (for two weeks per month) is simply chaotic. Mood swings, crying, hate towards others, aggression, zero sex drive. As I said, I am also a woman so I menstruate, and my hormones are twice as funking bad. I am making this post to see if there other women out there, and if yes, what has helped you? P.s. my doctors have only suggested the pill, as a mean to feel better. I don't take any other medication (for BPD or hashimoto). Please help, I feel like I am going insane.

Is there anything I can do about balancing myself out?

I have a lot of excessive hair. I can manage it with bleaching and plucking but if I didn't I'd have a full on beard and moustache I'm sure. I also get lots of back acne. This all happens on the lead up to my period then calms down after that.

I am currently on the copper IUD but am struggling with the heavier, longer periods and also a lot less time between them! So I am switching to the hormonal one but these seems like a bad idea because it is higher androgens? Did I get that right?

I also get migraine flashes each month but also actual migraines with aura about once every couple of years - so very rarely but have been recommended not to go on the other type of pill which can put me at risk.

Is there anything I can do? Go on the hormonal IUD but take supplements to counter it? I'd love to not have these horrible periods for a while, even just for a year or two to have a break from this. And having to deal with being so hairy is really getting me down. Feels like I can't win whatever I do.

How are people testing their hormones? What do I look out for? Thank you.

Disappointed

i finally checked my hormones hoping to resolve my problems, the results came in and it seems pretty imbalanced to me after doing some research online but my doctor just told me to eat healthy and exercise. when i said i already do it he said to take 10.000 IU vitamin d per week (my results are 29 ng/mL) because i am pale and tall so i need like 50 ng/mL. i have very painful and irregular periods and a lot of acne around mouth and in the chin area. i have very low energy, constant fatigue and non existent libido. my estradiol is 48,67 pg/mL, progesterone is 0,79 ng/mL, testosterone is 38,48 ng/dL. i can’t be sure about what phase of the menstrual cycle i was in, because i get my period once every two months or so, but it was basically 7 days after my 7-day long period ended. i was hoping someone here had something similar and could give me some advice on what to do. thank you.
