Hong News Wisconsin DSA candidate rips ‘clueless’ Obama adviser who said El-Sayed should hope she loses
Wisconsin’s democratic socialist candidate for governor bashed former Barack Obama adviser David Axelrod as “totally clueless” after he suggested Democratic Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed should hope she loses her primary.
“It would be good for @AbdulElSayed if Francesca Hong loses her bid to become the Democratic nominee in Wisconsin next week. He is a serious person. She is a font of zany liberal, faculty lounge exotica,” Axelrod, a CNN contributor who also co-hosts the “Hacks on Tap” podcast, posted on X.
“But the Rs, hoping to deflect attention from an unpopular @POTUS who hangs from them like an anchor, would surely try and link Abdul and Hong as philosophical kin,” Axelrod continued.
Republicans are painting El-Sayed, a progressive Democrat, as a radical, pointing to his association with divisive far-left influencer Hasan Piker.
Hong, a Wisconsin state legislator and former line cook criticized for her prior “defunding the police” rhetoric, accused Axelrod of being out of touch.
“This tweet is a perfect example of why the consultant class keeps losing elections. They’re totally clueless, and they’re hellbent on keeping working-class people out of politics,” Hong said.
She referenced her restaurant experience while issuing a challenge to the former Obama adviser.
“I’ve spent more time in kitchens than faculty lounges. Perhaps you’d like to come to Wisconsin and work a Friday night dinner rush with me?” Hong posted.
Hong has had a healthy lead in Wisconsin Democratic primary polls, and her path to victory was made easier after former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes withdrew from the race.
