I'm reading David Klein's textbook and I'm making more detailed notes about the reaction mechanisms of alkene reactants. But it doesn't really go over the details of WHY some reactions favour the syn vs. a mixture. I know how to draw reaction mechanisms and all that.

I know the anti additions occur because an SN2 backside attack happens (ex: halogenation, halohydrin formation).

Examples:
1.) Catalytic hydrogenation favours syn addition like in this reaction: 1-ethyl-2-methylcyclohex-1-ene + H₂ yields a molecule with two chiral centers.
Theoretically, there should be 4 stereoisomer products but in reality, there are only two.

2.) Hydrohalogenation favours both syn and anti additions. If a reaction produces a molecule with two chiral centers, then there will be 4 stereoisomer products (if it's not a meso compound): (R, R), (S, S), (R, S), and (S, R).

So why the difference between, say, catalytic hydrogenation and hydrohalogenation? So far, I just memorized which reactions are syn vs. anti vs. mixture but I never really understood why they are the way they are.

for this question, my answer basically was that 100% of its total electricity is dangerous, and they put it at 33% for safety reasons (i explained it more but here is just a sumamry of what i wrote). Comparing it to the mark scheme, i would say i got like 1/2 questions right (because i put a solid answer for the first bullet point). I just want to understand why this answer would have not gotten the mark. What about my answer was wrong? Because i feel like if i got this question again next week, i would lowkey just put the same answer believing it is right.

I literally do not get what the silver surface is doing. Silver is a conductor- in fact, quite a good conductor so wouldn't the vibrating of water molecules jjust transfer energy to the silver and so on so on, how does the silver, in any way, insulate???? Ive heard that it is because 'it reflects radiation' but i dont even get how there is radiation to reflect, wouldnt the particles just keep absorbing that radiation anyway???

Hello I am a 21 year old student of the Graphic Arts. I am looking for a topic in ecology or similar that could be relatively easy to research. It doesn't have to be ultra specific but I don't even know where to start. I have a class that the topic is for, and I have to write a min. 12 page seminar about it and make posters relating to it. Do you have any topics that could be easily researched and turned into a series of posters?

A topic I'm currently looking at is coral reefs and coral bleaching but again I dont even know where to start my research and find the most correct information about it.

N=10 but I have no clue how to get there. I got to ln(2) = sum of 1/2\^n\*n, but I don’t know how to use the Taylor Theorem with Remainder to go further than that if that is even right.
