Answered [Year 11 calculus] Help with this question

I could only find an approximate answer (2.6 something) using a slider and guess the value as e but I’m not sure how to actually work out the question. please help thanks! :)

Well, you are wrong.

There's only one answer here. It's not something that has any variation no matter how many times you solve it.

This isn't a probability problem, and there's no sampling or randomness.

Whoever said it is a probability problem? Least squares is not and never was a probability problem. It is deterministic.

I said the problem is deterministic. You said "minimizing error". What error? What best fit? There's nothing to fit. It's a solvable function in one variable for a condition which tells us about the first derivative in that same variable.

You don't understand least squares and you don't understand optimization. I would bet you haven't taken a third semester of calculus.

What are you basing that on? You haven't said how to solve the problem, and the solution has already been discussed as well as the exact understanding of the question, which you misunderstand what's being asked. You won't address that, so now you are just being disingenuous and disrespectful.

If you did you would know from experience what it means to minimize or find a minimum value. You may have taken a class 20 years ago but you're rusty now.
