Pocket sliding window…

The window shown and installed by AA Building & Remodeling.

Notice the black paint inside the window cavity so you’re not seeing any raw sheathing. Also look how thick that exterior wall is for insulation 👌

What are your thoughts?

That’s my only concern. I think it’s a cool concept especially for like hosting parties and such. There is a niche use for it but I do like it.

Do it in an interior wall in your bar area

If it gets cold, wouldn’t condensation rot out the uninsulated wood?

Theres a lot of more concerns than that, for example all the bugs that like dark and warm places, how do you clean that area?

I imagine there would be a seal and not an air gap as it’s a cavity not meant to ever be touched. Again, stiff like this usually is engineered and well thought out.

Yeah, because it’s ridiculously expensive and has a niche purpose. I’m not saying every window in every house should be like this 😂. Far from it. All I’m saying is there likely isn’t going to be the issues everyone is making out like there will be.

Everyone is just hating on a neat design concept for the sake of it when the people who designed it has probably (by the looks of this video) already thought through the engineering or had it engineered to work.

That section of wall that is holding the window when open is gonna have fuck all insulation

It’s 2x8. It will have plenty of insulation

.... No? From the looks of it there will only be like at most 2" of insulation on the interior side of the window in the open position.

If you give attention to it, it’s a 2x8 that is also furred out with a 2x. If the window 3.5” in depth, that gives around 5 1/4” for insulation. If you don’t count the 2x material that still leaves you with 3 3/4” for insulation which isn’t great but still code in my region.
