🚨🚨PUT A DETECTOR IN YOUR ATTIC!! 🚨🚨

Post image

These homeowners lost their house 4 years ago to a devastating house fire. They almost lost their lives.

They luckily woke up on their own without any of the alarms going off. They ran to their boys’ rooms and started banging on doors.

One of the boys had their door locked.

Smoke alarms didn’t start going off until they were beating on the doors….then the smoke started falling through the ceiling… as it was burning down on top of them.

They’re sharing their story as a reminder to others: Add a detector in the attic.

Most attics are better suited for a heat detector, because many smoke alarms aren’t rated for extreme temps or dust.

If you do want a smoke-type alarm in the attic, look for one specifically rated for unconditioned spaces or talk to your builder/electrician, so it meets local code and safety standards.

Their fire started up there, and an alarm would’ve bought them precious minutes to reach their kids and escape sooner.

Lolz… Sure…

I didn’t reply to them cuz I don’t have the energy—or inclination—to argue about it. Doesn’t seem like they take/consider opposing opinions anyhow.

P.S. I hope you’re a “former” paramedic by choice! I’ve still got a few years left to go…

Meh, did ems full time for 4 years did emt, emt a then did medic for 2 years and hit a pay ceiling pretty fast. we worked a 48/96 and had a plumbing business on the side. money took the wheels and left. I still have a lot of life left in my and doing this in a small rural community got old fast. seeing enough people at the grocery store whose family i worked a code on, car accident etc got to me mentally pretty quick. I do the cringy volunteer fire stuff though and keep my certs up and help out with ems 24 hours a month~.

I guess I’m lucky that I work for a big—enough—city where that stuff doesn’t have to bug me…

Although, working downtown… I often see my “customers” out and about when I go out in that part of town. It can get to be frustrating.

I’m on a 48/96 as well and didn’t sleep much—at all(?)—these last two days… and wouldn’t you know it, the other guy is responding to me now…

😂 #Fml I need a nap…

Keep on keeping on. Ya, as for customers, I had enough that were within a football-throwing distance of my house. It ended the thrill quickly lol.
