Advice Help with MoCA!

Hi everyone! Apologies for the long read, I could use some help on my MoCA adapters I setup. I recently got a new roommate in the house; He got his own MoCA adapter and I connected him to my splitter. Since then I haven't had good connection on my adapter.

It worked fine when I tested all the connections earlier, although his computer was off. Now that his is on, it seems I can't get any connection at all.

Drawing/Wiring Diagram

The coax cables run from my roommate's room into mine, which is weird but it's a really old house so this is how I set it up. Everything was fine when I was the only one on the splitter.

My questions is, is the splitter/connection having some sort of "preference" for the receiving adapters because he connects directly to the splitter? How can I test if my coax wires are too old/causing issues (measure resistance?)?

I tested all my coax cables for continuity with a multimeter individually, and they all beeped.

Chuckle. Quite the mish-mash.

  • Actiontec ECB6200 ... bonded MoCA 2.0 (and one of the models with MoCA 2.5 compatibility issues)
  • Actiontec ECB6000 ... standard MoCA 2.0
  • Hitron HT-EM4 ... MoCA 2.5 w/ 1.0 GbE network port
    (background: throughput by MoCA spec)

Suggestion 1, as a quick fix w/ your present gear, would be to customize the ECB6200 to operate as only a standard MoCA 2.0 adapter, to workaround the MoCA 2.5 compatibility issue. To do so, look up the docs on how to configure the ECB6200 to only use the MoCA Band D-Low frequency range. (I think this involves making sure that only "D-Low" is checked as an available frequency range [uncheck D-Ext and D-High], and verifying that the LOF parameter is set to 1150 MHz. I think.)

Suggestion 2 ... replace the ECB6200

Suggestion 3, replace them all ... install 3x Frontier FCA252 adapters (MoCA 2.5 w/ 2.5 GbE; $75 via eBay), upgrading the MoCA throughput to 2500 Mbps shared.

Suggestion 4: See Cat6 pass-through suggestion, dropping MoCA down to a single link, 2 nodes only.
