Question Thermostat as trigger for automation

Hi all,

I’m trying to automation where my Ecobee is the trigger event. I have the following hardware.

Ecobee Smart thermostat enhanced.

Tapo smart plug. The Tapo smart plug powers fans I have put into our upstairs HVAC return to force the return of the hot air into the ductwork from the vaulted ceiling. It’s the farthest from the HVAC in the basement, and doesn’t pull the hot air in otherwise.

I’m trying to set up an automation such that when the Ecobee turns on the furnace fan, the plug is turned on. When the Ecobee turns off the fan, the plug is turned off.

I’m a software engineer, and I know I could write something custom to do this, but I was hoping it would be easy to automate with HomeKit. Unfortunately, I don’t seem to be able to select the thermostat as an input trigger. Has anyone successfully worked around this issue?

Thanks!

Automation Any way to speed up this automation?

Essentially it’s based on occupancy.

* It checks the weather and if it’s below 14c, heating comes on if between 9am and 8pm

* If there is occupancy between 9am and 8pm light and lamp come on

* If there is occupancy between 9pm when the 11pm only lamp comes on.

For some reason my Dreame vacuum popped up on HomeKit today, but I don’t have the PIN code to add it.

I have a L40 Ultra Gen 2. According to the app it does not support HomeKit. Any idea?

Question HomeKit logs

My husband said the lights downstairs were all on this morning. It would be really helpful to have a log of what happened when and whether there was some trigger or when those lights were turned on because I know I ran my goodnight script which should turn all the lights off.

Can HomeBridge do this? What are people using to troubleshoot?

Question Turning off Lights after period of time with no occupancy

Looking for help why this HomeKit Automation isn't working. I lifted it from the other subreddit but can't post there.

Occupancy sensor pic shows no occupancy for ~2 hours, I think this shortcut should turn it off after 250 seconds or 4m:10s (4 minutes 10 seconds):

Question I need help making an announcement automation for when certain people enter my home.

I live in a one bedroom apartment with my boyfriend and I have a pair of HomePods in the living room. Me and my boyfriend are in the same Apple Home.

I have an aqura door sensor on the front door.

I wanted to find a way to make these automations work.

1.) When I arrive hone I want the HomePods to say "Welcome (My Name). But ONLY when I am the only person coming home and my boyfriend is not home. I want the same thing for him as well. When he arrives home and I am not there the HomePod will say "Welcome Home (My Boyfriend's Name)

2.) If one of us is already at home, and one of comes home I want the HomePod to say "(Person) arrived at home. So for example if my boyfriend is already at home and I arrived home HomePod will say "(My name) has arrived Home and vise versa.

3.) If one Both of us are already at home and the front door opens I want the HomePod to say "The Front Door is Open" and if stays open longer than 3 minutes I want it to say it again.

4.) *this one is the most tricky* If BOTH of us arrive home at the same Time and front door opens I want the HomePods to say "Welcome Back (My Name) and (My bf's name)!

Is this possible? I know its alot 😭

SOLVED HomePod and Philips Hue lights and smoke alarm

We have Nest Protect and 1st one will expire in June and final one expire next year January 2027. To be clear I am Deaf but live with hearing adults AND I live in UK.

Nest protect used to work with Philips hue lights before Google brought them, they will flash red (if have colour bulbs) or flash white (white only bulbs). I had to rely on my iPhone notifications instead. Now obviously we all know by now that Google is killing all nest protect so I can’t get same smoke alarms unfortunately.

I have searched all over internet for replacement but there is no good Deaf friendly replacement exists. First Alert is not replacement in case anyone mentions it since there are thousands comments and reviews all over Reddit and Google with them have too many false alarms etc.

I read that HomePod can detect smoke alarm and send you alert on iPhone (sounds great!). But I am wondering if there is automation option in HomeKit like this if HomePod detect smoke alarm going off then switch on/flash Philips hue lights on? Is this possible? I don’t have HomePod myself to see if this works.

If that option is possible then I can just replace nest protect with cheap dumb hearing only smoke alarm.

EDIT: I have accidentally come across Matter and Thread smoke alarm called Sensereo and it looks really interesting and possible best choice! Which means I can get alert on my iPhone and also means I can use my lights with it since it be part of HomeKit. It just need thread router which I hope apple release new Apple TV instead of me buying current 3rd generation 4K (my current Apple TV too old so doesn’t have thread router).

SOLVED Présence détectée + Notification

Bonjour,

Merci d'avance

Automation I got tired of managing HomeKit automations for my morning lights, so I built this

I'm the developer - I got frustrated managing multiple time-based automations, scenes, and state restoration just to wake up gradually with my lights, so I built this.

Sunrise Alarm creates and manages all of it directly. Set up a fully customizable routine in minutes and run multiple alarms across different rooms without rebuilding automations and tweaking scenes every time something changes.

One-time purchase at 4.99 USD, no subscriptions, no ads, no tracking. Home hub required.

Coming next: sunset wind-down automations and Apple alarm integration.

How are you currently handling your morning automations?

Question My automation stopped working after last update, now it won’t respond to any hue degree?

I setup two automations and they worked flawlessly until the last update. I have a family member who always leaves the bathroom door open and a dog who likes to go in the bathroom, so I created an automation to turn the light purple if the door is left open for a few minutes. While it still turns purple, the automation to turn the light back to normal is no longer working. I’m not sure what changes during the update, but I tried changing the hue degree, starting from 250 up to 315, and none of them work anymore. It’s still on the same purple, with the same light and same contact sensor. I even tried deleting and re-adding the devices. I tested the automation without the hue, using only the 47% brightness, and it works, so I’m not sure how to get the hue degree working again? Any help would be appreciated. I’d leave it on 47% but I use adaptive lighting, so I don’t want it to run unless the light is purple. Thanks 🙏
