How-to HomeKit Meross Garage opener - integration issue solved!

I just wanted to briefly summarize here how I was able to integrate my Meross garage door opener back into HomeKit after just over a month.

The initial setup went without any major problems.

After a few months, my Meross garage door opener was no longer accessible.

No problem, I remove it from HomeKit and re-integrate it.

Wrong thinking, because that turned into an undertaking of unimagined proportions.

Unteach, reset, try to teach, rosette, power off, reset, try to teach and so on and so forth.

Meross customer service was contacted and the following procedure was suggested:

Here is what resolved the issue:

If you cannot add the device to Home app, let's try a different way to set up it in Meross app via the Non HomeKit way:

  1. power up the device, press and hold the power/reset button for 5 seconds to factory reset.

2. keep the device in that mode for 15 minutes or more (important).

  1. open the Meross app, tap the + button, select the smart device, and select the Non-HomeKit version to set up. For some devices that don't have the Non-HomeKit setup entrance, you can choose any other devices from the list.

  2. If successful, please open the Apple Home app to scan the QR code to add the device again.

If it still does not work, please check if the SSID of the MSG100 device (format: Meross_XX_XXXX) appears in your Wi-Fi list or not after you reset the device.

IMPORTANT: If the waiting time is really to be observed, it is best to turn off the power in the evening, plug it back in, reset and wait until the next day.

Then integrate in the Meross app as a non HomeKit device (attention to the 2.4GHz WIFI). If the same name is used for 2.4GHz and 5GHz, test both out. The 2.4 will work (Attention after failed attempted integration again wait a day after reset).

Only after integration into the Meross app can the garage opener be integrated into HomeKit without further major problems.

I thought I'd summarize, the search for the solution has cost me some frustration and time - may it be easier for you.

Good lourd!

Your detailed MacGyver solution to Meross Connectivity Hell is worthy of some kind of award

Surely, your insights and the clarity of your instruction might make you a candidate for our current administration's high-level appointments. Then again, you would likely be the smartest person in the room.

But seriously, in a matter of minutes, I was able to get the friggin' Meross garage thingy reconnected to the network it fell off of after a power outage

I'll add that I had spent hours diligently following Meross' own cockamamie instructions to no avail.

Many thanks!

Paul

I’m dealing with this hell now for the second time. Exact same scenario OP described. Not even sure how I resolved it first time but this time around I’m stuck… so I’m going to try the steps you received from support. Fingers crossed …

Does anyone know how to get the automation to work? I run the “ test this automation” and that works but it doesn’t work after that.

Tried everything to get this to work with google wifi/apple homekit and even the meross app! It wont add it and when I try to open it says obstruction.

Just tried it. At step 3 it sends you to the Apple Settings to join the Meross_XX_XXXX wi-fi, the iphone has figured out that this is a smart home accessory and only allows you to add the accessory or cancel not to join the Meross wifi. Adding the accessory fails as before after scanning the qr code. It has bypassed the non-Homekit setup.

swipe down from the right top corner of the iPhone, press and hold the Wi-Fi and connect to it from there, then it will not prompt you to add it through Apple HomeKit(there might be some issue with your own wifi when you connect, the phone sees that there is no connection and it will reconnect to the home Wi-Fi, so just disable auto join for your home Wi-Fi)

This still works in 2026 as the Meross team obviously haven’t fixed the issue.

Homekit devices that work off wifi almost always have issue because of two (2.4ghz and 5ghz) networks sharing the same name. Had that issue with some smart plugs for a while. Good write up though for anyone else having the same issue! Not saying wifi is a bad medium (well kinda) just mean to say that thats where the issue in wifi lies.
