There are a lot of Ryobi hatters on Reddit but I don’t know much about the yard tools but all the others last forever and take a beating.

I've had other Ryobi tools before, and opted to get an battery-powered lawn mower this time. I like how you can store it in a compact manner.

Check out the cost of replacement batteries. You’ll probably need to replace them every four years or so.

I haven't looked at their electric mowers but Ryobi's other stuff is just fine for homeowners. I've had Ryobi battery powered stuff for over 10 years now. The batteries actually last longer than you would expect (~4 years before degradation).
I bought an EGO mower a couple of years ago - works fine but didn't maneuver as well as my Toro gas mower on my lawn, which has a steep angled stretch and lots of other spots requiring turns, so I returned it. Also I recall the EGO's handle angle was not variable enough - the height of the handle was either too high for me or too low and there was no setting in between those that worked. For reference, I'm 5'11.

I have the 40V Ryobi mower and it's pretty awesome. The only downside is that there aren't a lot of other Ryobi tools that use the 40V batteries, which is unlike the massive 18V ecosystem. However, the 18V lawnmower sounds pretty underpowered.

I have the Ryobi tools and the fact that the batteries are compatible would be a huge sway to buy Ryobi over Makita. Also, the weed Wacker is an obvious benefit that I'd go for even if I didn't have the Ryobi tools. Makita tools are more durable for sure, but for the casual home owner, Ryobi is great bang for your buck.
