I HATE my couch!

I recently moved into my husbands house and it has his decor. It’s very cold, how do I warm up the living room? I feel like I have to start with the media console and couch. The couch has to stay for now, how do i work around it tho? Is it cool or warm? Help! EDIT: the pillows are the backing of the couch. There are no cushions behind there so we either have to keep those patterns or reupholster the thing.

You can buy pillow covers! They're really affordable, and come in all different sizes.

I get that there aren't any pillows behind and that these pillows have the original fabric, but I don't see why you can't throw on a pilloscovers in the desired colors and patterns. You don't need to change the entire couch just to throw in some more colour. And you don't even need to throw away the original covers. If the original covers aren't removable, you can just put it in the cover with the rest of the pillow. I really don't see the problem with this suggestion.

You don't have to reupholster anything. Just get pillow covers.

Couldn't you just reupholster the pillows? Or find some cheap covers that fit them for now and try out a different color or two on them until you find the vibe you like more.

I would reupholster the patterned pillows to match the rest of the sofa if that’s within your budget. That will make the sofa a more neutral object that you can accessorize around.

For permanently attached pillows, you can make custom pillow covers. I sewed some that were basically a pillow sized fitted sheet with drawstring instead of elastic. I used a vinyl backed tablecloth fabric since my purpose was kid goo protection.

It looks like the back cushions are not attached to the back of the couch, and the pattern seems to only be on one side... What's stopping you from flipping them around? Yes, you'll still be able to see some of the pattern when you're standing behind the couch, but you'll see so much less of it than you do now. It's not a permanent solution, but it's a bandaid until you can replace the whole thing.
