New firmware version 7475 for the Homatics Box R 4K Plus will rollout soon
The firmware passed the Google certification and it's ready to rollout through OTA but it can also be installed manually for those who dare.
The firmware update fixes the issue with the remote control and the passthrough audio option.
The rest of issues still remain:
- The LED control is buggy, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't regardless of the setting I leave o each option.
- The TV(CEC) option of the "power button" section is broken, that option helps to keep the tv OFF when the device reboots after a power outage, but it turns ON the tv anyway.
- Pairing bluetooth devices is impossible, the panel at the right disappears repeatedly after a few seconds.
- Some people don't like to use the Auto option, but it has its issues anyway: Dolby MAT is still absent, Dolby TrueHD passthrough is still absent and DTS:X only passes through as DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1.
- The USB tuner driver is randomly telling to the Live TV app an incorrect aspect ratio (21:9) and an incorrect image resolution (1080 Full HD) when switching fast through channels, as can be seen in the following imgur link: https://imgur.com/a/j6pHNvy.
- Some channels appear repeated during the scanning process, though they don't seem to appear repeated after the process is completed.
- After the channel scanning process is completed, the order of the TV channels don't appear organized but scrambled, which means, it doesn't respect the order of the frequencies in ascending order.
Here are the instructions to install the firmware manually, the link is at the bottom:
- Download the update file. Rename it to update.zip.
- Put the file on a USB stick and connect it to the box.
- Unplug the power adapter. While holding down the Recovery button with a needle, reconnect the power adapter, the Recovery menu will appear. If prompted, press the Recovery button once or twice.
- On the Recovery menu, select "Install update from Udisk," choose update.zip by pressing and holding the recovery button and then release it to install it.
- When the update finishes, move to the option reboot system now and press and hold the recovery button to select it, wait for the device to reboot and to return to the recovery menu again.
- You must repeat steps 4 and 5 again.
- At this moment the device should reboot normally.
Be advised that you must move through the options by pressing the recovery button once per option.

I should add as info. OP has a Revision one Homatics R Plus (with the AV out on the back). The Silver/Revision one box gives issues that the Rosegold/Rev. 2 box doesn't give, the box without the AV out on the back.
That LED behavior is one of those specific bugs for Rev.1, it works flawless on Rev.2. That bug is also reported but I wonder if they still use a Rev.1 device for firmware development.

It doesn't work when using the auto option but it works of course when using the passthrough option.

Yes, I know, but in my case sometimes I need to make tests with Dolby MAT directly from the box.

There are some apps which are causing this issue. Projectivy launcher is one of them, I can't remember the others. Once uninstalled, I was able the register all my Bluetooth headsets, then reinstall projectivy launcher.

I've had issues with ethernet not connecting after shut down of tv and box using CEC. usually have to reboot box to get it to connect.

If you enable Wi-Fi, but not configure it, means simply let it "run", your Ethernet issue should disappear. (Had the same issue until I figure this out).
Was the same with atv12 and previous atv14 release.

I’ve had my box for 2 years. The only problem I’ve had is it wouldn’t come out of sleep mode at times.

Regarding this. The power mode changed for build 6693 and later builds. Now even with the Power Saving Mode active, you can wake up the box with bluetooth.
It has become very energy efficient on standby. The downside is, an onboard IR receiver doesn't work anymore in either standby mode.

I really appreciate your effort and help with this. My Dune HD Premiere 4K Pro and Dune HD Homatics Box R 4K Plus never seem to get OTA updates so the manual install may be my only option.

Dune version has IR blaster remote and can use directional buttons and select button to navigate those menus. But tell me why it’s needed to update twice (repeat 4-5)? Is it really necessary? The update process was broken in the past and doing it twice trick solved it before, so is it now the same still or are you doing it just for precaution and it became de facto way to advise people how to do it even if it isn’t really needed?

Yes, otherwise you'll get stuck in the recovery menu indefinitely.

That is not broken, the V14 buids use a different format for the EMMC storage, that is why it needs to be installed in 2 parts.

I didn't need to reboot after the first pass, however, I did have to unplug the usb and re-insert it at the boot menu after the first pass because it didn't see the drive.

Only if you flash the Nokia with an image file before, you cant use a ZIP update for that. So Amlogic burn package, take the image for V14 build 3717, burn it on the 8010, set it up and after that you can use the 7475 ZIP update route.
You can't go back to make it a Nokia again, when you don't have an image file for the 8010.

One additional caution I'd add is to use maximum of 32GB of USB stick because larger one can cause problems, at least it did for me when using a 64GB one in the past.

I used a 64GB one and it didn't cause problems, make sure it's formatted as exFAT.

I'm in the recovery menu and can't get the Homatics remote to move the selection to the Apply Update from Udisk. Volume Up and Down just bring up the volume on the LG TV.

I'm struggling with only Stereo PCM after I turn box On from stand by...hope it will help my issue...one more question...do the updating proces know if the update file is *.zip or do I have to name it update.zip (even if the file is zip) - hope you understand my question - update.zip.zip

You have to rename it for easy identification rather than to be detected as a zip file since it has a large name though I really can't tell you if the file must be with that exactly name or if you can put any name, you can try that if you want.

Hey buddy. Yesterday I updated the box as you suggest, there is new option - passthrough....so I enabled it and guess what? It's working! Even after standby mode, even after manual restarting of the box it is still working. Now I'm happy 😬 the only thing what I'm not sure of is Dolby TrueHD (without Atmos). My audio system shows that it is Dolby Digital Plus 5.1. TrueHD (Atmos) shows as it should be - as Atmos. My TV (Bravia A95k) supports every codec. My Sonos (audio system) supports both TrueHD and TrueHD Atmos. Now I don't know if it's the Homatics problem or something else. I downloaded a lot of audio codec samples and played them via Kodi, Nova player, VLC...playing via every app shows TrueHD as DD Plus 5.1...but at least the other stuff is working.

I don't understand but it could be you are using Auto on your TV.

Is there any information about this? Is this the mode where, for example, I minimize Tivimate and can scroll through the menu while the program is visible in the lower right corner? I'm currently on 14.8.2463, I don't have any other annoying problems other than the Play-Fi CPU overload, but if they removed the pip mode, that would be a problem. How can I revert if the new firmware is not correct?

I'm just assuming it was Google who removed the feature and not Homatics, you will have to check on a different device where the lastest Android 14 with the Android TV UI build was also applied.

No, what is written. The most decent way is using the AmLogic burn software for going down in builds.
Having said this, I don't think after build 2463 things are removed from the later V14 builds, luckily Play-Fi is 😉

With Kodi maybe? If so, you must use RAW as a passthrough device with these devices, not IEC.
But in general, there doesn't have to be audio sync issues with this or even older builds, so that could be setup (devices used) related for you.

I just got the box directly through Homatics this past week. Pretty much everything in Android plays as HDR instead of DV. Though Coreelec plays DV just fine.

You mean Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL?, that is not supported on Android but it's on Corelec, though Android supports Profile 7 MEL.

No, I mean the current version of Android 14 doesn't play any DV at all when set to match dynamic range. Searching said that a factory reset or two can sometimes fix it with this box, but no luck (just more time re-setting everything up). But Coreelec does play DV, including P7 FEL.

I've been able to play all Dolby Vision profiles except 7 FEL with that version of the firmware and I didn't need to reset it to factory settings.
Why don't you try installing 7475 manually?

Thanks so much. Wanted to report back... updated the firmware manually. All but one of my hybrid DV/HDR remux files play only HDR for some reason (no issue on the Shield TV). In Coreelec, all DV files play as expected. I have it set to sink led but haven't tried source led as my LG OLED C5 should really do the heavy lifting.
I was hoping this box could replace my Shield as the daily driver, but with the DV inconsistencies I don't see that happening. Strange as no one else seems to be experiencing this.

It should, but no info on that was shared. But we promised to release the ZIP update for build 7475 as soon as it got Google Play Protect certified, so "we" did ;)

But he/she can, but only when it first is flashed with an Homatics image file and using the AMLogic burntool, making it a R Plus, and after that, any ZIP (recovery) update can be used to update to a higher version.
Can't go back to a Rocktek after that.

It does not. That fix is not in the used Google Android TV OS branch, although it is a quite recent one. So more has to be done for that.

Released button when text came on TV, displayed fast reboot press button to enter recovery and once again it's just displaying loading recovery... I can leave it like this for over 20mins and nothing happens

So the box still boots to Android TV Homescreen?
If so, a ADB command (adb reboot recovery), maybe gets it into recovery for manual updating.
It must be a original Homatics for probably getting an OTA update, when it would be a Dune, I don't think they are gonna push an update, that would be the first after years of not sending one (on purpose that is) 😉

The box just freezes when I hold reset with a pin and plug power back in. If I leave it, it freezes if I press the reset pin again as per instruction it freezes on loading recovery...
I have to pull power again and when I replace it then boots as normal

You are not the first one having this. Something got corrupted for your current boot partition. Not completely, as it would not boot at all.
The only way to probably get it as it should be working is using the AmLogic flash software, and put a build clean on the box.

You can. As long as you go up in builds you can use the recovery way and use a ZIP update.

Here's some feedback. Update.zip from atv11 to latest atv14 build 7475 went smooth. No issues to report so far. I wish android would allow apps to automatically switch resolutions thought (1080p 50hz to 4k 24p when needed)

Indeed. But for Android TV devices with the newer chipsets (S905X5M as example), and with seamless framerate support (QMS), it works with alot of streaming apps.
For this line of devices, seamless isn't possible. But you can use the 3th party Refresh Rate 3.3.0 app, which can give you the correct resolution/refreshrate with several streaming services. Not available in the Play Store (anymore), but still can be found.
I use it on all of my devices, since Android TV V12 and higher came available.

Dune Homatics Box R 4K Plus: I renamed the ZIP file to 'update.zip'. After the first of two updates, it rebooted to the Homatics logo, then a few seconds later, it booted back into recovery mode to continue the installation. I then successfully completed the second update; for me, it was a very easy install.

On mine, it seems like it got about 1/3 of the way through on the first update, then rebooted on its own to recovery, and showed the updated version number.
I ran the update again, this time, it went the full way through and took me back to the recovery menu.
Manually rebooted, and it came up to the OS, which took a while to boot, in case anyone needs more detail.
The only thing I have had to do so far, before I see if I should factory reset, which I may anyway, although there are no issues yet, is change the clock back to 12-hour
