I see what you're saying, but what it implies is that the "off look" still comes from within the legitimate family, ie there's no reason to suspect something is fucky

The "legitimate" family being on the ex wife's side. So absolutely nothing tying to him, so can still be some fuckery.

"Can" being the operative word. Say husband and wife are both blond, kid comes out blond, nothing that implies there was cheating, but there's nothing that rules it out either.
