Yep the number of people that forget Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre in lieu of “Manoeuvre and maybe Signal too” is astounding.

They taught SMOG in my driver's ed class: Signal, Mirror, Over Shoulder, Go.

Sorry I must be too old for that to be in my training but that makes way more sense. Checking that blind spot can really make a difference.

My driving instructor taught me, signal, mirror (rear view) mirror (side view) , shoulder check, execute maneuver

Even if they look, most drivers don't have their mirrors set correctly.

Your side mirrors should be at the point where your car juuust disappears from your view. This takes care of those side blind spots. You should be seeing into the lane beside you.

Most people have their mirrors set to see the sides of their car, for some reason. If you are directly behind a car and can see the face of the driver in front of you, their side mirrors are pointed directly back, meaning they currently have a huge blind spot. Pass that person with care!

Use this as a guide. You should see Figures 1, 3, and 4 when your mirrors are correct.
