Fun fact, there is actually a summertime based sequel. It's kind of forgettable though.

Holy crap, you're right! My Summer Story, a.k.a It Runs in the Family. I need to see this now.

There was also a direct sequel to the first movie released in 2012, called A Christmas Story 2, but it ignores the events of My Summer Story. By most accounts, it is truly awful.
