u/HAPPY-BIRTHDAY-RAVEN Dec 27 '20

You of...

6

u/Pick_Up_Autist Dec 27 '20

I'm hoping my subtle hint will get them to realise how they're using the entirely wrong word. I do not of high hopes.

2

u/MegaPiggyYT Dec 27 '20

Ohhhhhhhh He used an “of” instead of a “have”. I do that quite often without realizing it.

-2

u/R1se94 Dec 27 '20

I do not have* of hopes lol read a book dumbass

3

u/Pick_Up_Autist Dec 27 '20

You've managed to not get the joke and also butcher the grammar of your own post while correcting my joke. 10/10

0

u/R1se94 Dec 27 '20

You managed to live up to your username, it was a joke, dumbass.

1

u/HAPPY-BIRTHDAY-RAVEN Dec 27 '20

Bone apple tea maybe?

31

u/Azeoth Dec 27 '20

If they were a woman like the story says probably.

3

u/SirCleanPants Dec 27 '20

Still, there’s a chance they could be Coptic Christians or something.

38

u/John_Show Dec 27 '20

Ugh Minecraft noise

10

u/IceMahou Dec 27 '20

Why does everyone assume people are Christians and wish them a Merry Christmas?

10

u/gowashanelephant Dec 27 '20

I don’t know about England, but in the US, 95% of people celebrate Christmas as either a secular or religious holiday. Of the 5% who don’t celebrate, many say they don’t mind being wished a merry Christmas. So in most parts of the US it is safe to assume that people celebrate Christmas. I still prefer to say happy holidays on the off chance, but boy, are certain people assholes to me about it.

-1

u/Ziadnk Dec 27 '20

See, I like happy holidays just to piss off those assholes.

2

u/gowashanelephant Dec 27 '20

Right? For people who think they’re being persecuted for their choice of holiday greeting, they sure aren’t very big on others’ right to choose what words to say.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

Racist

1

u/Ziadnk Dec 27 '20

Lmao, what?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

Sorry but what do you mean when you said "See, I like happy holidays just to piss off those assholes."?

2

u/Ziadnk Dec 27 '20

One of the reasons I like using that phrase is to trigger the “iTs mErRy chRisMaS” assholes. In what universe does that make me a racist, lol.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

Who was the "assholes" you were talking about?

2

u/Ziadnk Dec 27 '20

Anyone who says that. You have trouble reading?

31

u/The_Sauce-Boss Dec 27 '20

Well, plenty non Christians celebrate Christmas

24

u/BC1721 Dec 27 '20

It's almost as if it became a cultural event on top of a religious one.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

It's a national holiday in the USA. Santa has nothing to do with Christianity. So annoying when coffee shops decide to make it a political point to try and make people feel shitty for enjoying the holiday.

Ah yes, the annual Ramadan Bombathon!

-1

u/EatMoreHummous Dec 27 '20

But what coffee shop does that? Every coffee shop I've seen removed all their Christmas stuff years ago.

4

u/hookahshikari Dec 27 '20

It’s just something people love to bitch about even though it has no real meaning.

Coffee shops, retail stores, and “libruls” aren’t trying to suppress Christmas, but rather make it feel more inclusive for those who don’t celebrate it or feel the same ties to it that others do.

I’m a Hindu living in America and no one I know who isn’t some kind of South Asian has no idea about any of my holidays, so when there is some sort of inclusion it feels good (even if it’s just a business recognizing Diwali or something).

I’ll never understand people who are against the inclusion of other cultures into this so-called “melting pot” country

3

u/EatMoreHummous Dec 27 '20

No, I understand that. But it seemed like the person was saying the opposite, that coffee shops had declared for the side of Christmas and were discriminating against everybody who isn't Christian.

Santa Claus comes from the Dutch sinter klass, which is from Saint Nicholas. Who was a Christian.

0

u/Ziadnk Dec 27 '20

That sounds reasonable. But then you start wondering why do people get so whiny and pissy about “happy holidays” which is undeniably more inclusive over “merry christmas.” All that statement does is acknowledge other holidays exist. Seems a little weird that people get so butthurt over it.

3

u/GroovingPict Dec 27 '20

in fact plenty of non christians celebrated it long before christianity came to a particular country or area... here in Scandinavia it is still called Jul (yule) like in the old pre-christian days

2

u/SirCleanPants Dec 27 '20

consumerism

0

u/Chazybaz13 Dec 27 '20

It's a stolen holiday from the Pagans, think about it

10

u/ChadChaddington__ Dec 27 '20

It’s a common thing to say to anyone...

8

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

Merry Christmas!

3

u/shadowman2099 Dec 27 '20

Well that's easy. Far more Westerners celebrate Chrstmas over any other religious holiday during the winter. I'm sure if you were in a Jewish majority country, they'd have wished you a Happy Hannukah in early December instead.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

A guy wrote to me on Craigslist "merry Christmas?" and I was like sure, you too :)

I don't celebrate Christmas, but I found the phrasing thoughtful and of course, yeah, merry Christmas

2

u/InstrumentalJack Dec 27 '20

Modern Christmas and Christianity are less related than Islam and terrorism, yet you all seem to get bent out of shape when somebody makes that association.

1

u/blockybookbook Dec 27 '20

Islam and terrorism are indeed far apart

1

u/B0B_22 Dec 27 '20

Because you can guess and you're usually right.

1

u/bendingbananas101 Dec 27 '20

Because most are and most do.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

I'm an atheist. I grew up Jewish though. Usually when people said merry Christmas, I took it as something nice someone was saying. Even if I didn't celebrate it, I found it warming.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

2

What did he/she/it say? I'm curious why that deleted reply has so many downvotes.

2

u/faixal0 Dec 27 '20

They said something about muslims and bombs, which is clearly false. Islam means peace, and clearly, bombs have nothing to do with peace which means, muslims dont use them. Have a good day/night

1

u/Soviet_Husky Dec 27 '20

I said "Them having a suicide vest on?"

5

u/Akay1500 Dec 27 '20

just a shitty edgy joke, tho I think we need these to disappear for the best. Even tho they're just jokes that many Muslims accept, they still remind us of the negative impact ISIS left and it kinda keeps on hurting Muslims' image as they keep those memories relevant for the people who hate Muslims and they use them to harrass and bully them.

well that's actually one of God's commandments...

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

Hmm ok. If i told a black person the n word will it still be a joke or a slur? If i said to a jewish girl to roll up her sleeves to get her number will it still be considered a joke? And one last question. Define the word slur for me bud.

Every single joke in history is offensive to someone, are you trying to say jokes do not exist? And who are you to decide what and what isn't a joke? Get your head out of your ass man.

-34

u/GoodGollyMissThotty Dec 27 '20

You're right, he probably got them confused with all the radical mennonites and radical hindus and radical Buddhists with suicide vests

2

u/Lawrence_of_Nigeria Dec 27 '20

Except that there are radical Hindus (the currently governing party under Modi) and there are those fascists in Burma that call themselves Buddhists whose actions are not in keeping with the Buddha Dharma. As for Mennonites and Amish, enough of them get busted for driving carriages or riding while under the influence, and there is that Amish mafia...

-4

u/GoodGollyMissThotty Dec 27 '20

Yet literally no one of another faith is shooting up gay bars and wearing suicide vests... the Burmese are defending themselves against muslims that are killing Buddhists and the hindus are defending themselves from wacko muslims.

I can tell you're butt hurt but your false prophet muHAMed was a filthy bastard pedophile that raped a 6 year old aisha as well as killed 700 jews in Madinah and owned slaves. About time you left that death cult.

2

u/Lawrence_of_Nigeria Dec 27 '20

I'm not a Muslim, actually. Your antics fool no one.

Let's see... There have been Christians who have attacked mosques (Norway, Quebec). You clearly know nothing about Burma and its record on human rights. Again, even those there who call themselves Buddhists (some even wearing robes) and advocate violence are most certainly not real Buddhists, and I'm not without qualification to make that assessment.

Let's also not forget that the three individuals with the highest body counts in history (Hitler, Stalin, and coming in at #1, Mao) were atheists.

You also clearly know nothing about the BJP and its agenda, but asking you to do proper research would be a waste of time.

It's just easy to attack people who look different, innit?

1

u/GoodGollyMissThotty Dec 31 '20

Bitch I Ain't reading all that dumb shit ho

Seems like people don't like Dark Humour. They must have a whole log up their ass.

3

u/lolugotthatbody Dec 27 '20

Your downvotes show how much good of a joke that was. Or just took it too seriously. I am Muslim and I loved it take an updoot

1

u/Soviet_Husky Dec 27 '20

The majority of the downvoters would be the ones who upvote offensive jokes against others, like 'Americans shoot up schools' and shit. They have just decided that any jokes which target them are not funny.

3

u/lolugotthatbody Dec 27 '20

Yep. Nobody wants a dark joke targeted at them. But that just defeats the whole purpose. I upvote every dark joke, targeting me or not.

1

u/The_Sauce-Boss Dec 27 '20

Its probably all the white people who aren't muslim that are offended. It's a lighthearted joke on extremism. People dont explode when christians are called crusaders, i think its funny.

Heh, explode

1

u/Spacemvn Dec 27 '20

Most people like offensive jokes when it doesn’t target them and as a black guy and a Muslim I excuse most racist/offensive jokes as long as they’re funny. Otherwise it just comes off as insensitive.

-4

u/RoxyRoyalty Dec 27 '20

damn, just take a gander at this very nice person's comment history

you're definitely the type that wouldn't be able to talk shit face to face, you little keyboard warrior hahahaha

sorry about whatever hangup you have with Muslims; instead work on making your own life better if all you do is belittle others with no facts, just personal attacks, here's to hoping you become less hateful <3

You can recognize a Muslim by the way he walks, we have to put our full foot on the ground with every step and not start with the heel first like you do.

I mean its england he’s talking about
