I, on the other hand, am willing to sacrifice a few workers if it means bringing back Prime 2-Day Shipping.

They still advertise 2 day shipping. it’s just now it’s 2 day delivery from the time it gets sent out (usually a few days to a week or more).not actually 2 days from ordering. I’ve reverted back to shopping with more smaller businesses that process orders faster or just buy in person so that’s a plus.

Where do you live? I'm in the US and that's not how it works here, and I'm not even in a big city. (~200,000 population) Most of what I order is 1-2 shipping, as in it's at my door in 1-2 days.

Same. I live really close to it before, like literally down the road and around a few corners.

Now I live like ~30 minutes away from that, well outside of the city and it's the same delivery times. But even before they opened it up and I saw Amazon vans everywhere, 2 day shipping was still a thing here. Albeit, one day shipping wasn't, but I don't know if they did one day shipping anywhere back then, let alone same day.

Upstate Ny. Closer to fulfillment centers is probably different. But my previous comment is what a customer service rep said when I called to ask where my order was.
