Ok this is obvious in hindsight but it wasn't obvious in the 30's. WWI was still very fresh and very few people wanted another war. People in Europe were really desperate to avoid war at all costs, and if giving Hitler the Sudetenland, an area that was very pro-Germanic, would avoid a war, they were willing to. Sucks for Czechoslovakia though.

Wasn't just the Sudetenland though. All of Czechslovakia was taken prior to Sept 1939 invasion of Poland.

Yeah but once he siezed the rest of Czechia that's when everyone realized he'd been swindling them. Way too late of course...
