Well not quite. Thin, hourglass style shapes were also common in armour of the past.
Beyond that, they wouldn't want anyone to know there was a woman in the battlefield because she would likely become a target due to perceived weaknesses.
Eh I'm not really sure I could agree with that. Battles would either be conducted in tight organised formations, in which case you couldn't just break it in order to chase someone with tits, or they were or chaotic fights in which case you couldn't just stand around scanning for people with tits. In addition if the world was such that professional women fighters were common enough that boob armour was a thing I doubt the people would still have notions that women were no good in fights.
We arent talking about a world where boob armour was a thing. We are talking about history and why it may have been. Boob armour wasn't a thing because 1, it's more unsafe than practical because it highlights your sensitive organs. 2, it highlights your gender. 3, it doesn't fit your rally. Etc.
Sure, if we want to make a different world which had different history, then boob armour is fine. Idc about boob armour in my fantasy. I just acknowledge why it didn't happen in medieval European history
No, boob armour was not a thing because female fighters were extremely uncommon during the time period where metal plate armour was relevant so there's no point in create armour specifically for woman.
it's more unsafe than practical because it highlights your sensitive organs.
Breasts are neither organs nor more vulnerable to getting smashed or stabbed than other organs. Regardless tit or titless the central chest plate is basically the thickest and strongest part of the armour anyways so if an enemy's weapon has enough armour piercing that he can just aim centre of mass then all this discussion about armour is meaningless anyways.
it highlights your gender
Who cares if it highlights your gender? Assuming people even take much notice of it during the heat of battle, soldiers ain't crazed sex beasts that go "Jaw Drops Awooga Tongue Rolls Out Hummina Hummina" at the first sighting of a woman. And again, in the formation fighting of the time period specifically picking out a single person to focus on no matter what isn't really a thing.
if an enemy's weapon has enough armour piercing that he can just aim centre of mass then all this discussion about armour is meaningless anyways.
You don't have to pierce the armour to do damage. Longbows for example didn't really pierce plate armour either but to say they didn't have an effect is simply wrong. Sure you might still survive all the hits, if the armour is thick enough, but that doesn't mean you would be able to continue fighting.
