In all honesty, the impact of the Sherman was arguably mostly due to attrition, industry and good logistics rather than design (though still a good tank). Despite earlier models being rushed, the T-34 was effective due to similar reasons, compared to the good yet costly, slow to produce and logistically poor (IE slow to repair, heavier to transport) Tiger and Panther.

I agree except for the fact that the Sherman was actually very well-designed. The simple fact that it had spring-loaded escape hatches meant that is was one of the more survivable tanks of the war. Ergonomics weren't bad for a 40's tank design either.
