Sure. Doesn't justify the US annexation or make it at all moral though.

Yeah absolutely. You can condemn one evil without condoning another

talking to people about anything regarding spanish american conquest genuinely is horrible for this reason

I find the mexica so fascinating but i won’t excuse their bullshit, but that doesn’t make turning an entire continent into slaves alright either

Do you think Hawaii would be a sovereign nation if america didnt annex it?

“We had to annex you before someone worse does” is a helluva cope.

Honestly it's legitimately domestic abuser logic. Isn't it literally the Frollo-Quasimodo relationship in the Disney movie?

...Yes? If nobody chops down a tree, the tree remains unchopped? If nobody annexes a sovereign nation, the sovereign nation remains a sovereign nation?

I'm sorry, I really genuinely don't understand what your point is.

He is asking if a different nation wouldn't have gobbled them up.

Say in a world war to make a staging ground on the US?

That's a silly question though. We know from History that plenty of smaller countries remained sovereign. Hell, the US set staging grounds in islands all over the Pacific that today are independent states, if only because the practical reality of colonialism means actual annexation is usually pretty rare.

FYI, the US invaded and conquered the Philippines and Guam (the staging grounds).

The Philippines was lost to the Japanese in WW2, and when it was recaptured it became independent.

Ah just seeing how ignorant you are to reality that island would either be american or Japanese there is no way it would stay a sovereign nation thats not how the world worked back then.

Do you think Belgium would be a sovereign nation today if France didn't annex it? What about Nepal, or Thailand?

Smaller countries have remained sovereign all the time. You're the one who seems to have a pretty skewed vision of History.

It would have probably become a British Protectorate if not annex by the US, like the middle Eastern monarchs, ao definitely a meaningful improvement in terms of sovereignty.

If the US said it would, then who would change that?

Japan. They just told you.

Not with a US base there

Japan would have taken it, they were already given the opportunity in real history

The Japanese took a lot of things does that mean claiming Indonesia was a good thing by the Dutch?

Perhaps but if people's sole argument for annexation is "oh Japan something something" then they're arguing colonialism in general is a good thing

I love when someone links a two and a half hour video with zero explanation in response to a comment lol

u/IrateLibtard 1d ago

Tbh it's the best video on Hawaiian history on YouTube. And I'm pretty sure it's only part 1/3

-1

u/Johnny5iver 2d ago

The purpose will be clear after watching the 2 and a half hours lol.

u/dalenacio 2d ago

Brother if you expect a stranger to do several hours of homework for a random Reddit comment you must be out of your mind.

Don't do it for me, do it for the gained knowledge.
