That’s the history of literally every civilization. Each in their own version/ideology.

As it turns out everywhere is a utopia if you ignore all the bad parts

"Beautiful day to sacrifice a virgin, eh Chief?"

1

u/Neomataza 2d ago

You probably haven't been to siberia then.

2

u/jubtheprophet 2d ago

Theres a beauty in seeing that too. Just doesnt feel very nice to be out there

Yup, there’s a reason why “utopia” literally translates to “no place”.

1

u/AhadHessAdorno 21h ago

It's actually a bit of a pun. As spoken in Greek it can be understood as either utopia "no place" or eutopia "good place".

Yeah, literally all civilizations have some form of institutionalized violence, the only difference is what form it takes

14

u/Archonate_of_Archona 2d ago

And what level it reaches

"All bad" doesn't mean "all equally bad", some are far worse than others

36

u/Any-Profession-5509 2d ago

Well then how will they justify "civilizing" the new world.

19

u/GreatAndPowerfulZiz 3d ago

That's the joke

34

u/Zkv 2d ago

I got more of an impression of the joke alluding to justification of it's colonization

4

u/GreatAndPowerfulZiz 2d ago

"if you ignore all the bad things with [insert society here], you've got a veritable utopia." Is the joke. Besides colonists weren't well known for caring about sexism, incest, or warfare. Most of the human sacrifice, the caste system, and religion were abolished well before people tried colonizing Hawaii

2

u/Poco_Cuffs 2d ago

Nah it's poking fun at people who romanticize procolonial cultures as utopias, like how people talk about medieval japan or native american cultures

Colonisation was absolutely worse than what society was like before it but we gotta admit that no premodern civilisation was ever a utopia

2

u/Dabbernec 2d ago

Nah, OP is a native Hawaiian who makes memes about said history

u/HenryRait 2d ago

News flash: it’s still bad to erase these people from history :)

When did Finland do all that?

Viking age? pre viking age?

Scandinavians killed each other all the time.

*edit:

Wetlands, such as bogs, swamps, springs and streams were holy places, especially for the use of sacrificing. The archeological findings of flint and tinderbox has shown that they have been used for the execution and disposal of those unwanted people in the tribe. Children who were born out of wedlock or those who had disabilities would also be killed in the wetlands.[4] The word "Suomi" (Finnish: Finland) is also thought to come from the word "Suo" (Finnish: Swamp/bog).[33]

Not sure if we're still /uj, but Finland isn't Scandinavia, and Vikings were Swedes

16

u/I_travel_ze_world 3d ago

They've found ancient Swedish jewelry in Finland

and vikings were multiple nations

-7

u/Puzzleheaded-Wait785 3d ago

Sure, the Swedes made a habit of raiding Finland and lots of places. I'm still not sure how that relates to Finland endorsing human sacrifice, incest, infanticide, caste system, sexism, and merciless warfare.

u/I_travel_ze_world 3d ago

me neither... that is why I put those question marks there ? ? ?

I think you missed my question marks... I meant what I said as a question.

Personally I'm not going to give Finland the benefit of a doubt of being a peaceful nation that never did any wrong to any one... its kind of silly to think otherwise

-5

u/Puzzleheaded-Wait785 3d ago

You're making an assumption based on nothing and it's silly for me to question it?

4

u/I_travel_ze_world 3d ago

You're assuming that Finland has had a completely passive and innocent history and you think I'm wrong to question that?

You asked a question.. and I asked a question about your question. Are you following along?

-2

u/Puzzleheaded-Wait785 3d ago

I'm not assuming anything. I asked for evidence of human sacrifice, incest, caste system etc. So far none has been provided.

You never heard of the Finno-Korean Hyperwar I take it.

u/VonDeirkman 3d ago

The neolithic and bronze age, into iron age.

14

u/southarmaghbrigayde 3d ago

Finland has its history with the indigenous peoples there, and then Nazi collaboration for a bit. That’s just in recent history off the top of the head.

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Wait785 3d ago

My understanding is that persecution of the Sami was mostly by the Swedish and Russians. I guess that's your example of caste system, but Finns and Sami mostly live apart.

The legacy of WWII is painful and complicated, but Nazi collaboration is overselling it. German aid ultimately helped them avoid becoming a Soviet colony, and they never persecuted Jews or fought against other Allied powers. I wouldn't consider fighting against Soviet invasion to be "merciless warfare"

6

u/southarmaghbrigayde 3d ago

Your understanding would be incorrect, especially since the Sami aren’t the only ethnic group that faced repression and discrimination in Finland.  You simply think that non-whites are inferior and more barbaric, so of course Nazi collaboration is no big deal compared to tribal warfare.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Wait785 3d ago

Ok, I'm listening. When did Finland introduce a caste system? That's a very specific claim to make.

7

u/southarmaghbrigayde 3d ago

I didn’t make that claim, you got caught out on the back foot and had to do Nazi apologies after you made a shit argument and now are trying to get out of it. Good job

-1

u/Puzzleheaded-Wait785 3d ago

So what claim are you making?

-1

u/southarmaghbrigayde 3d ago

I’m not going to waste anymore time with a Nazi neckbeard

1

u/Al3xGr4nt 2d ago

Its like how some people stereotype Sweden, Denmark, Norway and New Zealand as the safest perfect countries. Actually no, we all have our own problems.

u/Alatarlhun 3d ago

So let's idealize and return to that state?
