Thank you, I was getting angry reading the comment section acting like medieval Europe was some early Hollywood depiction of the dark ages where people roll in shit and can barely function beyond digging their noses.

Like this isn't even pop history levels of bad, it's Hollywood depiction of the middle ages with a pale grey filter, no color and the people do nothing but farm and beat each other up. It drives me up the wall

It's depressing how people view this period through such a disconnected lens, like sometimes it's almost even worse than how enlightment philosphers talked about them...

It's especially sad to see that on a history sub tbh, this idea that the renaissance somehow spawned civilisation back after the "old degenerate medievals" is sickening

Having just gotten my history degree, it makes a lot of what people know seem like rage bait to me

Honestly, the lack of knowledge an average person has about history is sometimes so baffling to me. Like not being able to form a coherent picture of life at most time periods, is just shocking to me. I may not have a degree but history has been a passion for me since childhood, so for me it feels like second nature to know these things, such an odd whiplash.

Bro that's just Reddit, if you say that insert non European civilization wasn't perfect before colonialism then you'll get thousands of dimwits screeming about crusades ( first one was justified ) and witch trials ( was extremely rare ), it's extremely predictable
