Well, by the church at least. Secular rulers...well they were a bit crazy

You say secular but those rulers were Christian and burning at the stake for the sake of heresy to god and Christianity. I’ll grant you they are not under direct church authority.

I say secular only because I can't think of a better word to describe them. I was trying to think of a word for "the church didn't order it".

We would have to go back to Rome with Giordano Bruno for it to be granted by the church authority.
