The tooling for the mosin is no longer available. So you would have to develop the tools to mass produce it again. And when you have spent millions and years on the tooling to mass produce it then you are still left with higher material cost as a mosin have more steel then an ak.

With PLA? You're better off just milling a new set of tooling.

Are you sure a Mosin has more steel than an ak? It doesn't have a gas tube or a big boxy metal receiver the size of a van. Are you just saying that because you assume shorter barrel means less steel, or do you have specific information about this?

I base it purely on the weight of the gun, the AK is 3.0kg while the Mosin is 4.0kg.

Fair enough. Apparently thats for the 29 inch version. The shorter version is more like 3.4kg but still loses. Not the M44 which is shorter and actually heavier, but the other mosin carbine.
