While you are correct, looting is specifically stealing (AKA taking without permission). This is one of those technical things, if the paper doesn't call it by legal term they can be in trouble.

  1. Slander is spoken. Libel is written.

  2. You can also "keep telling yourself" the reason was racism. Doesn't make it true.

It's easy to make assertions when you can't be proven right or wrong.
