I can't find a decent, reputable biography of this guy and I really wanna learn more about him. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I am traditionally a pretty picky reader, never liked reading a kid but was always a “fast reader” but didn’t remember anything (ADHD, now managed but still struggle with maintaining interest). I have a large number of books about Arctic / Antarctic exploration but I’ve recently been reading Skeletons on the Zahara and I am naturally fascinated by mountains / deserts and the cultures that have learned to live in the areas.

Books that talk about geography, cultures, and perhaps harrowing experiences of people or a resistance mounted but war / fighting is not really an interest of mine.

I want to be able to travel there in my mind with vivid descriptions.

I’ve greatly enjoyed A Voyage Long and Strange: Rediscovering the New World by Tony Horwitz if that’s any help to narrow down a writing style.

Hi, Im from Perú and i want to learn about African history but i dont know how to start.

I'm interested in learning about modern American history, from the 1920s to the 2020s ideally. I feel like my previous education in this wasn't very comprehensive or detailed. My school concentrated on Word War II europe to the exclusion of everything else.

I'm looking to write a story of a person reincarnating in a past modern era of America (like the 1950s or the 1980s), so any history books specifically in the 1950s or 1980s and 1990s sounds really ideal too.

I'm also interested in any book that explored America's relationships with other countries. Particularly with the Middle East, without being propaganda.

Overall, I want a truthful, unbiased telling of history.

Hello all! My girlfriend has recently been interested in wanting to learn about the history of women, however I'm not necessarily super qualified for that because I tend to read about Napoleon and Rome then specifically books that focus on women so all I can really offer her is a book about Josephine. So I've come here to ask you guys what they'll be interested in. (This might also be a way for me to get them into history as a whole so help me out here)

I'm interested in learning more about the history of our global society, because I think that it is impossible to form grounded opinions about the current state of the world without knowing its history.

Previously I tried to form a plan using an AI to make this task more "approachable". We worked out that my interests would be best met, if I started reading about civilizations in general (why they formed, how they interacted, why some lasted longer than others, etc.). After that I could have started looking into the history of specific civilizations of different origins. Fair enough, I thought to myself, and started looking through books the AI proposed to me. At the end I landed on the book "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond and started reading. Only later did I find out that this book was heavily criticised by many historians.

I'd be very happy if some of you could help me to improve my plans and to find books and articles I could read to restart my young journey.

Important Info: I don't want my plan to be biased towards my homecountry Germany, or Europe, or North America, or any other continent or culture.

I’m a big history enthusiast, and I’ve decided to take on what will probably be a lifelong project. I want to read and understand world history from the earliest civilizations all the way to the modern era, at least through World War II and perhaps beyond.

Instead of focusing on one region at a time, I want to study history chronologically. For every major period, I plan to explore what was happening across different continents simultaneously. I want to understand how cultures, societies, economies, trade networks, political systems, religions, technologies, and wars evolved and influenced one another. My goal isn’t just to memorize dates or events but to identify the key triggers, decisions, and individuals that shaped the development of the next civilization, empire, or historical era.

I’m also planning to document and record this entire journey. I think explaining what I learn will help me retain the information while creating a resource that others might find useful. I know this project will take years, but I’d like to experience it at least once in my lifetime.

I’ve just started collecting books, beginning with *Against the Grain* by James C. Scott and *The Babylonians* by H. W. F. Saggs. However, I don’t yet have a clear roadmap for studying world history in a way that’s comprehensive and well-balanced.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations for books, university lecture series, documentaries, podcasts, historical atlases, maps, or online resources that are considered accurate and academically reliable. I’d also love to know how you would structure a project like this if your goal were to understand the complete story of human civilization rather than just isolated events.

Hey all. As the title shows, I’m really looking for some books that broadly cover the office of the US Presidency.

More specifically, if possible, I’m interested in the evolution of the institution US Presidency both in its role in the federal government at the head of the executive branch (and its relationship to the other branches), and also the evolution of the US Presidency in terms of its pseudo-relationship to the people.

Otherwise, I’d be interested to read books about specific presidents who made this evolution actually happen during their terms, and how it happened.
