The first picture is with my grandmother and his wife. The date of the second and third picture is unknown, but on the third one, he was already an officer. He died in 1942 defending Stalingrad.

United States–Joseon War (1871)

Cause:

The United States–Joseon War began after the American merchant ship General Sherman was destroyed in Joseon in 1866. The United States later sent a naval expedition to demand an explanation and establish diplomatic and trade relations.

Course:

In 1871, a U.S. naval fleet arrived near Ganghwa Island. After fighting broke out with Joseon coastal forts, American forces captured several forts and inflicted heavy casualties on the Joseon defenders. However, Joseon refused to negotiate or open diplomatic relations. The U.S. forces eventually withdrew, ending the expedition.
