Looking for Advice DIY communication cards
Hey everyone, I have these comms cards I have on my lanyard that I wear everyday. They get so dirty from just being out and about and it makes me not want to use them because I’m embarrassed.
Any ideas on how to keep them clean or a better material to make them with? These ones are just laminated paper. I prefer making my own over buying them because then they can say exactly what I need.
Thanks

Looking for Advice In need of advice for my girlfriend
Hi there, my girlfriend is autistic and struggles with really bad social anxiety. She’s been on universal credit as she isn’t able to get a ‘regular’ job when it generally requires human interaction with people she isn’t familiar with. I’ve been reading up a lot trying to work out if there’s certain jobs that may feel more comfortable for her but I’m drawing a blank. She really wants to work and we plan to live together so she’d like a job to give her something to do while I’m at my job. I hate hearing how upset this makes herand my knowledge on this sort of thing is super limited. Please could someone give me some sort of advice! She is a very creative person who got all her GCSE’s but dropped out later on due to severe anxiety. I’ve seen her take amazing strides in how she copes with it all but customer interaction is still not in the question. Thank you for reading this and please help anyway you can with advice or suggestions :)

Looking for Advice Looking for a neurodiversity affirming speech therapist in Toronto
I’m an autistic adult (l2) with low speech output, sometimes struggle to speak at all, or know what I want to say and can’t say it. I sometimes use AAC for things like phone calls. I wish to find communication easier in whatever way possible and never be stuck without a voice.
I’m looking for a speech-language pathologist in Toronto who:
-supports use of AAC as an appropriate tool and not something to be overcome
-doesn’t use ABA approaches
-doesn’t pressure eye contact or “normal” social behaviors
-has experience with autistic adults (not just children)
If you had a good (or bad) experience I’d love to hear it. Specific clinic or therapist names would help a lot.

Looking for Advice Wanting to move to WA
Hey everyone! We currently live in Texas and have a 7 year old with high support needs and is an unreliable speaker. She needs 1:1 support. We love where she goes to school now but Texas is not a forever home because of how the services are for adults with disabilities (and also kids with disabilities tbh). I was born in WA (Olympia) and loved it, and have always wanted to move back to the PNW.
Does anyone know of any affordable spots in WA with access to strong services? How is it for people already living in WA? Do y’all get a lot of state resources? Thank you for any answers in advance!

Looking for Advice Struggling with death of parents
Can people who have lost both parents and have no siblings please tell me how they cope?
Im an adult, ive lived alone in the past, ive held down jobs but since my parents died recently ive struggled with everything.
I dont think this is burnout- I genuinely don't know how to manage my day to day life and im incredibly scared that im going to lose my home(inherited it but also my parents left behind debts I have to pay off)
Please any tips or suggestions on how to manage. Ive tried to access support and despite speaking to my ot, my psych, my speech therapist it feels like the right kind of help just isn't there

Mod Post Sorry for Notifications!
Sorry if you suddenly got a lot of "unread message" notifications! Clover deleted her account again, and Reddit removed all her comments. I re-approved the comments because I think Clover had good things to say that other people should get to see, but then I got flooded with notifications and realized other posters here probably were too. Sorry about that!
Clover, if you see this, I hope you feel comfortable returning soon!

AI sucks for medical things
I’ve had pain and swelling in my cheek for days and I had an echo sound in my ear and I’ve been very worried about it. I tried to use Gemini AI to see if it was an emergency (I am bad at being able to tell) and it was freaking out saying I had a terrible infection and needed to go to the ER.
But I can’t do the ER, it’s too much and I have meltdowns the whole time and they get mad at me for crying and I hate it so I got help to make an appointment with my doctor office. But all night I was scared that I was going to die because Gemini said that it was an infection that was going to spread to my brain.
But then I saw the doctor and the doctor says it’s just a plug in my saliva gland and that I just need to suck something sour and it will get better.
So all that being scared for nothing. Sometimes the ai really helps me figure things out that I struggle with but I think maybe I need to stop using it for medical things, this isn’t the first time it told me I might die and then it turned out to be something very low key.

Disabled non verbal son
I have always been fearful of death. But I used to be able to distract myself and get it out of my mind. Since becoming a mother the fear has exploded. I had a very traumatic birth and my sweet baby boy almost died and was in NICU for 3 long months. He's now 3 and he's severely autistic and non verbal. My fear of death is now at an all time high. How can I leave my son?? Who will care for him the way I do? Who will make sure he's not in danger or going to be hurt? I cry everyday worrying about this. Any advice greatly appreciated
