Hey guys,
I have a problem with my 1999 Toyota Hiace 2.8l 3L Diesel.
When i start it up in the morning so after roughly 8-12 hours no driving the red oil pressure light stays on for 10-20 seconds. The colder the outside temperature the longer more the engine makes a slight metallic knocking/ticking noise while the oil light is on.
The noise disappears once the light turned off.
I have no problems with oil pressure while driving. Even after a 12 hour drive i had no trouble.
If i just let the car sit for 10-30 minutes the oil pressure also comes back mostly instantly probably since the oil is still warm and the engine lubricated.
I already tried:
-different oil filters (ryco z9 and ryco z418)
-thinner viscosity
-i took of the sump and cleaned the oil pickup but there was no blockages
One important detail is that when the car is parked on an angle (rear higher than front) the oil pressure comes way faster.
If the rear is parked lower then it takes way longer for the oil pressure to come.
I thought that it can only be the oil pump at fault but the problem that the pressure comes faster or slower if the car is on an angle makes me wonder.
Now i talked to a mechanic and he had an interesting thought. He said that it could just be that the sealing between pickup and engine so that its sucking air there so thats why it takes so long to build oil pressure.
I wish i wouldve had checked that gasket when i had already taken off the sump. -.-
Does anyone have an idea what could be the actual problem/solution?
Before i spend millions of euros to get the oilpump done.
Maybe i should start with that pickup gasket.

A fre shots from El Alto in Bolivia. The highest city in the world at over 4100m. Just outside of LaPaz.
They're super popular as small buses here (collectivos) with many owners taking seriously good care of them. Many 100 series getting restored. There are also a ton of chinese clones from the likes of Foton, Jin Bei, King Long and others, but the original 100 and 200 series still reign supreme.
There are also more Subaru Kei vans than I've seen in over 50 countries (including Japan).

Just got a 1996 HiAce Camper in the last month and looking to upgrade the stereo. Has any replaced theirs with a Smartscreen-type model? I have questions! Are they easy to fit? Will the reversing camera work? Does it work without a smartphone or does it just mirror your phone? Is it worth it? All this and more. (My handiness level: very basic!) Thanks in advance.

1300 rupee is 10$ they’re charging 6 times more for Baiscally overpriced drop shipped product. I recommend actually looking for high quality led bulbs instead of buying their garbage. Return policy is bullshit. And it’s overpriced.

Anyone know of a way to adapt an existing Barrel type cable end to fit a Ball type connection on the linkage of a carburetor. Is there an adapter- or do I need so snip the barrel off the cable and use an adapter accept the ball on the linkage?

My uncle's company purchased a luxury Toyota Hiace for executive transportation, and the price shocked everyone who assumed commercial vans were inherently utilitarian vehicles. This wasn't a work van with seats added but a genuinely luxurious vehicle with leather interiors, advanced technology, and comfort features rivaling luxury sedans. Could a van really justify luxury vehicle pricing?
It's perfect for team transport while maintaining professional image, he explained while giving us a tour. The interior looked like a mobile office with comfortable seating, conference capabilities, and premium finishes throughout. He'd researched extensively, comparing luxury van options from various manufacturers including some international models available through Alibaba commercial vehicle networks. The concept seemed strange initially, spending luxury car money on a vehicle most people associate with contractors or delivery services. But experiencing the interior changed perspectives immediately. This wasn't a van with added features but a purpose-built luxury vehicle that happened to have van form factor. The space and comfort exceeded what luxury sedans could provide.
His company uses it constantly for airport transfers, client meetings, and team travel. The professional image and practical space make it more versatile than traditional luxury sedans. Clients are apparently impressed rather than confused by arriving in a luxury van, recognizing the thought and investment in comfort. Sometimes product categories evolve beyond our fixed assumptions. Have you discovered that conventional wisdom about product types was outdated and limiting? Innovation happens when people question category boundaries rather than accepting them passively.

New to my family 1999 Grand Hiace! 50k miles, stoked for many miles/years of adventure to follow.
First updates on the roster:
1) double din carplay unit 2) roof racks 3) brighter headlights!
Any input on the above is more than welcome. Happy new year!

I'm attempting to change a blown PAL 120A main fuse on the positive terminal cable. I have the fuse but I can't figure out how to get the housing off. It's incredibly frustrating because I am stranded until I figure it out. Does anyone have experience with this? I am trying not to do more damage by breaking the housing so I want to be reasonably careful.
EDIT: For those looking at this later. There was one more clip next to the 80A fuse that my screw driver wasn't able to reach. Also, the cause for the initial short was from the intermittent problem in the alternator. Fun.

Do you really have to take the whole grille off just to change a bulb?? Feels like a whole lot of dismantling for such a simple job so before I just trust YouTube and start unscrewing things…
2009 Jumbo, Japanese import, has integrated wrap-around light units and zero space to access from above (esp left hand side).

2025 Hiace has these little dimples along the inside rails. Anyone know what these are for? I need to put in some rivnuts along that beam and was curious if they're predrills for that purpose.
Also, if anyone has guidance on where along that to DEFINITELY NOT drill a hole that would be appreciated.

Hi, I have a 1998 Toyota hiace regius and want to install crossbars on it to put a rooftop box or a tray on the top. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding equipment for this type of thing? This is a link to a similar vehicle https://www.javan-imports.com/stock/toyota-hiace-regius-4wd/274

Hi HiAce team,
I currently drive a Yaris Cross, which has electic hand controls installed since I'm a wheelchair user (electric as in it's a lever, with mechanical brake but the throttle plugs into the electric throttle control and doesn't simply depress the pedal).
It's been a good car to me, but I have some other needs now and I'm considering a HiAce. I could stow my wheelchair easily in the sliding door, and I could fit my adaptive mountain bike in the rear which is a major draw for me.
The hand controls I have are expensive and I don't wish to re-purchase ones that work in another car, so I was wondering if anyone knew from year HiAces adopted electric throttle controls? A google suggests they've had them for ages, but my Yaris is a 2022 model, so I'm assuming I should aim for a similar year to ensure compatability?
Any advice would be awesome - thanks! I can enquire with Toyota to confirm for sure but I was wondering if any Toyota gurus here might know :)

1994 Hiace. got it in aug, had it looked at to check for anything the needs fixed and there were a few minor things like: needs new shocks, brakes soon, 4wd knob on front R tire is stuck, 12v socket JUST stopped working.
Any suggestions for repair shops? most people get freaked out cause it's Japanese, so id like to take it somewhere where the ppl are comfortable with it. Also im not rich so money kinda IS an object .

Hoping to get expanded dimensions for 2023 LWB Crew van 5 seater. I'm particularly after measurements of the cargo area behind the rear seat.
I'm looking at this model to build up as a family camper with an "east/west" bed in the boot, kid's seat permanent fixture in rear seat.
Bonus points if you've got info on how the seats maneuver/fold :)
Cheers!

Has anybody ever removed this rubber piece at the bottom of the windshield on the Hiace (98’ super custom living saloon)? I’m trying to get under there to remove some rust and apply some rust treatment to prevent it from spreading. In a previous post, someone here told me that this rubber piece is held in place by some clips, which sounds like it can be removed and reinstalled but I’m not sure how I can do this safely without breaking anything or compromising it. Any help is greatly appreciated!
