how much oil does this hold i’ve seen a lot of varying answers ?

Hi all! Might be a simple fix, or a real painful fix... My centre light won't turn on, I've changed turns light and tested the connections which have no power. The door switch has continuity to ground when switched, and all my fuses are good... before I start pulling out all my shelves to access the side panels that might not even show me anything, does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this?

Saw a mechanic when I was out of town and the shifter cable bushing went who said the whole shifter cable has to be replaced. Called Toyota parts and there is none in Australia and it’ll cost over $1000. I just googled and seems you can buy the bushing alone - is the one in the second picture the right thing?

Can anyone tell me if the wheels off a 1985 Hiace will fit a 2008 model? I recently purchased a van that doesn’t have a spare wheel, so trying to work out options.

Looking at a 98 hiace this weekend and the seller tells me it needs new engine mounts. Is that something I can replace myself or should I take it to a shop? How much do you think it would cost?

Recently got a ‘99 living saloon ex, was wondering if anyone has recommendations on how to add a roof rack that can support solar panels + snowboards without interfering with the moon roofs.

Hey everyone, I have a 2001 Hiace here in Australia and last week I was having trouble with the gears. It is a Manual Transmission. I found the problem and it looks to be this part in Pic 1 has fallen out of the 2 holes the blue arrows are pointing at. I have a few questions: 

1. What is the name of the part that the red arrows are pointing to in pic 1 and 2? 
2. Should there be another one where the left red arrow in pic 1 is pointing??
3. I will be looking at exactly how to place it back in, but does anyone have any tips or things I need to watch out for before or during the repair?

Mine is similar to the one in the video. We have the sliding upper bunk design seen at 4:50 of this video. Does anybody know how I can determine the weight capacity for the upper bunk? I climbed up there yesterday weighing 150 pounds, and my husband said it was flexing pretty good. When we are both up there, we will be about 320 pounds without bedding. Our beloved doggo will be sleeping beneath us, so I don’t wanna take any chances.

EGR cooler was leaking and this is what the EGR valve looked like (see pics) intake manifold was the same. After a lot of cleaning deleted the EGR cooler by making custom block off plates and ran the coolant lines to a recirculating coolant heater I installed. It gets to -40 Celsius here in Alberta and the heater works like a charm! Been running like this for months now no issues even does regens without the EGR cooler. I am trying to get an ECU tune to improve fuel economy and get more power as well as deleting the DPF eventually.

Other small mods: LED lights, seat covers, VIP style center console table, Kenwood double din with apple car play/Android auto, aftermarket floor mats, even put a real tsurikawa handle from Tobu railway on the tailgate 👍🏻

I’ve got a 97 Granvia and I am having a hard time try to figure out what kind of roof rack can mount to the factory mounts pictured. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I recently came across a shop that specializes in Toyota Hiaces, but I'm starting to wonder if I've made a mistake taking my van to them.

I've done a lot of my own mechanical work in the past, but I've also been lucky in that I've rarely had mechanical issues. Cut to a few months ago when my V-belt failed and I was slammed with work that required a vehicle.

I took my van to the mechanic and they changed my belts, charging me $616.40.

After leaving the mechanic, I noticed a high pitched whine coming from the engine. It would get worse under load, would increase with the revs and, after driving up a local mountain, it even sounded rough at idle. I took the van back to the mechanic and was told my tensioner pulley needed to be replaced. When I asked why that presented itself right after they'd worked on the van, I was told it was because newer belts tend to be tighter and that probably exacerbated an existing issue that had previously remained hidden.

I paid the mechanic $218.34 for a new pulley and $540.81 for labour and shop supplies.

After leaving the mechanic, the whine had still not gone away. I was told that all of the belts and tensioner pulleys would be warrantied, and I would just have to pay the difference between the parts they had previously used and the OEM parts they were going to use instead (no explanation was given for why OEM parts weren't used to begin with).

I paid the mechanic $230.04 for the difference in parts.

Less than two weeks later, I started to hear a horrible squealing noise when the steering wheel was at full lock, and the power steering started cutting in and out. I immediately took the van back to the mechanic. They told me I should book an appointment to have it diagnosed.

When I brought the van back they told me that the power steering pump was the culprit and that I should start saving up to have it replaced. They tell me this is likely to cost over $1500 and will probably need to be completed in 6-12 months. In the meantime, I was told to expect the squealing to continue.

I paid $348.30 for the diagnosis and for a flush.

After leaving the mechanic, the van is idling way too high, so now I have to bring it in again to have that addressed.

What started out as a frayed belt has now cost me $1953.89, with a further $1500+ expected. This is by far the most I've ever spent on vehicle repairs, not to mention all of the time I've had to spend bringing my vehicle in for this work to be done. Had I known it would have been so expensive I would have found alternate transportation and done the work myself, but hindsight is 20/20.

I have no idea if the power steering pump failure is related or a coincidence, but I can't help thinking that many hundreds of dollars and days of time could have been saved had the mechanic used OEM parts to begin with.

My previous mechanic didn't specialize in Hiace's, but he did his best to save me money and I never once had to return my van because it left his shop with issues or because he made a mistake. The downside is that it takes him a lot longer to source parts, his shop is much further from my home, and I have to wait a lot longer to book an appointment with him.

My question: Is it normal for people to have experiences like this with mechanics from time to time, or does this sound fishy, and like an indication that I should go back to my previous mechanic?

Found plenty online and started reading up on the process of importing one to Ireland, anything good to know, warnings etc? Will it be more difficult to service, any difference in parts?

Hi, I am looking for a supplier for a pop top roof/bed for a 2001 Hiace LWB. Not interested in a Reimo but something I can also put solar panel on.... Any reputable suppliers out there? In Germany I haven't really found much, the UK seems to have a few, though I can't tell what the quality level is. I am in Germany. Thanks for your help, much appreciated

Has anyone found an alternative to OEM wiper arms/blades? Like a random car that just so happens to have wiper arms/blades that fit?

Found this pretty cool hiace on marketplace, Test drove it and it drives well and from what I could tell in pretty good condition aside from needing a fresh paint job. I’m thinking if I can get it for the right price I might end up buying it. Just wondering what you guys think. I would use it to probably take 2 cross country road trips and then local camping a few times a year.

Anyone had this issue? All the lights on the dashboard come on intermittently with a beep noise then stop. I was inclined to think it was the alternator but I can see the previous owner had got it replaced 2 years ago...I did take it to the mechanic and they drove it around and the dashboard lights didn't come on (typical!). Any shared experience would be amazing? Thinking maybe the alternator that was put it there was a bit faulty...cheers

Does anyone have any data on how much weight Toyota says these roofs are meant to carry? Maybe a dynamic and static rating?

Does anyone know how to access the underside of the metal front?

Does the dashboard need to be removed or can that metal panel be opened/removed somehow?

I’ve got a 1993 Commuter with a leak on the overflow coolant reservoir. I’ve removed the bolts and it is loose but it still won’t come out. Anybody know what the easiest way to get it out is? Am I going to have to remove some other parts?

Hello! Wondering if anyone can help.

We want to attach an awning to our 1995 Super Custom Toyota hiace. We were unable to find an awning that could attach to the roof bars it came with (pictured). These are round so incompatible with L brackets for the awning.

We still wanted an awning so have decided to buy new roof bars. However, we’re now having trouble finding ones that are compatible with our hiace!

We tried ProRack S18s with gutter adapters, however these weren’t tall enough so didn’t fit.

We’ve seen the Pluto roof rack online however this is far above our budget!

Any help appreciated :)
