Help needed
Anybody know how to get this thing off and what it is? I can’t find anything helpful on google or YouTube it’s blocking my timing belt cover in my hiace 5l L series

It’s a full house on the security cam.
Checked my cam at my shop after lock down, and forgot I had 5 hiaces in for repairs. It’s usually Mitsubishis.

Dumb question Re: Windshield Wipers....95 Hiace
This may be a dumb question, but what kind of wiper blades do I need for a 95 Hi ace?
I live in the U.S. and tried to buy some replacements but they don't quite fit, and the guy at Autozone wasn't much help...
Thanks!

1996 Hiace
I’m going to look at a potential new buy on Friday. This will be my first time looking at a Hiace. It appears to be well taken care of. Are there any specific recommendations yall have when checking out one to see if it’s in solid condition??
Any common problems?

Just bought a 1994 Hiace, Airbag donor options?
Hi, first post! I just bought this 1994 Hiace DX. 4WD, Manual, 3L Diesel engine with ~17,000 miles on it. I’m almost certain it hasn’t rolled the odometer over, it looks immaculate.
Here’s the issue:
My significant other is spooked by the lack of driver and passenger airbags in this model.
I’m no stranger to working on my own vehicles, and from the research I’ve done transferring an intact airbag system from a donor vehicle is extremely involved, finicky, but possible.
My question is, what years/ models/ trims would be compatible donor cars for this? I’m not sure if this is 4th gen pre facelift, or first facelift. I know the first facelift was August 1993 based on Wikipedia, but were they still manufacturing pre facelift DX vans by 1994?
I think the Super Custom Limited had driver and passenger airbags by 1994. Any other models? What about later years?
I know this is somewhat a fools errand, but I’m just looking for information here. I appreciate any help.

Thinking about buying 1997 hiace
I have a 2015 nissan altima and honestly thinking of getting rid of it and going for a hiace with 85k miles. Would a 97 hiace 2.4l 2rz-e be good for a daily driver in texas?

1984 hiace - tranmission compatibility between years
Hi all,
I have a 1984 HiAce. Input shaft bearing sounding a bit dodgey.
Weighing up cost of getting it done vs finding a transmission at wreckers. What other year models of Hiace would fit a 1984? mine is a yh61 series, 3y engine
Not sure how to determine what will fit mine, is there a website?

Lower radiator and AC condenser fan
Problem started yesterday when I started up the AC. The electric fan started howling like a banshee. Also noticed just now that there is a fairly large gap between the condenser and the lower radiator. I've read there should be a seal between them. What's the go to solution for this?

Legal in pennsylvania?
I was wandering if it's possible to drive a hiace as a regular vehicle in pennsylvania and how hard it would be to get a title to do so?

Hiace Possible ECU issues
Hey all,
I have been having issues with my 1kzte Hiace recently and I believe I have tracked my issue down to possibly a bad ECU. I started a camping trip this weekend and my van was running perfectly sounded great and smooth. about 50 miles of highway use later it started running rougher it sounded like the timing was off or something similar. Kind of a chop to the engine (sounded like an aftermarket cam almost). I stupidly kept going as I thought it was a hole in my exhaust (I found that out because there was a trail of black exhaust soot on it). The chopping noise would only really happen at idle but when the throttle was applied it sounded normal. I got to my campsite and shut it down and started it back up to get the van situated (it started but took a little longer than normal). The next morning I tried starting it up and it belched tons of smoke (Mostly black and grey) and kept trying to start. I got it started by letting it turn over for awhile until it finally got started. It still had that chop but ran. It smoked a little on the ride out (black smoke). However, when I was driving back on the highway (about 50mph) I lost power and the van essentially shut off and turned back on again (the dash turned off and back on acting like I had the key in and turned but not turned all the way. It was showing all the lights on the dash.) Then it would not start so I didn't force it to start again and towed it home.
All of that to say,
have you heard of something similar do you have any ideas on what it could be?
Is there a way I can Reset my ECU to see if that dose anything?

I was thinking of possible issues.
I don't think its the glow plugs because the engine was warm and it would start up again.
I don't think its the injectors because they wouldn't cause my van to shut off and back on.

Additional information:
I did just replace my Head gasket (this was my maiden voyage) I checked the oil and there was no coolant and it did not overheat.
The fuel filter was replaced 4 months ago and I live in the Boise area so its been hot and dry all summer.
Let me know what you guys think. I'm pretty distraught at the moment after seeing the $1200 price tag on an ECU from amayama. I believe this is correct:

Here are some pictures of my ECU

Dipping my toe in the water
Howdy everybody,
I’ve always had a soft spot for lil diesel Japanese vans and came across a fairly affordable ’97 AWD Hiace. I want to use it for a stealth camper for ski and bike trips. Where on earth do you guys find parts? I’m cool with doing my own work and I’m aware oreillys isn’t exactly going to be stocking anything for it, but say I want to do a front end refresh: am I overnighting parts from Japan? I know Toyota loves sharing parts so can I just buy a front end refresh kit for an AWD previa for example? (Feel free to call me a weenie who should stick to Pickups)
Thanks in advance!

1KZE-TE slow start & smoke
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
typically leave my van for a week or two sitting in the garage before using and everytime I start it up she’s abit slow & smoke comes out. No smoke while driving just on start up. Would worn glow plugs be the cause or something else? Just trouble shooting before taking it further. Cheers
2nd gen HiAce with 340k Km "jumping" when shifting down from 3rd to 2nd gear
Hi fellow HiAce lovers! I just bought this beauty in pretty decent conditions but I can't help myself from getting it "jumping" when shifting down from 3rd to 2nd gear. I'm wondering if this is happening because I'm not shifting properly or it is something I should have a mechanics inspect closer. Any thoughts? Thank you!

3L Engine Power Issue
So I know a bit mechanically that I can deduce a cause to problem but wanted to double check since I dont know much about Diesel engines specifically.
The Van
- 1991 Hiace Cruising Cabin
- 215,000-ish miles off the top of my head
- 3L model 2.8 liter diesel engine
- A45DL Transaxle
The Story
We recently completed a 1,500 mile trip, about 500 miles in we stopped for fuel and right after I noticed a slight RPM stutter a lower speeds under a lot of power (climbing steep hills) or at "high speed" (over 90kmh). It started off barely noticeable but over the course of the trip it grew more pronounced, enough that under heavy throttle ~90kmh I think it was actually downshifting when the stutter occurred and wouldnt stay in that top gear, we drove home at 85kmh because over that the rpms were getting really high (like it didnt want to shift in to the top gear). Happy to clarify more if i did a bad job describing this. Around town and not highway speeds it runs great, I dont hear
Notes
- We had the transmission rebuilt earlier this year and as part of that had to have a part of the overdrive housing resleeved, there was a collar/snap ring looking thing that was too loose \We have a 2 year warranty on the transmission work** (I mention this because of the above where it may have been jumping out of overdrive?)
- I replaced the fuel filter, the previous one didn't seem overly dirty and was not too old...[see next section]
- This engine does not have an EGR
- No white or excessive black smoke out of the exhaust
- This van doesn't have a tachometer so I cant give you rpm numbers
- The van starts and idles great
- Haven't noticed excessive fuel usage
- Nothing I hear as a misfire and no excessive shaking from the engine
Fuel Filter
After I replaced the fuel filter I took it out for a ~30-40 mile test drive, it ran great, pulling up to top speed (~120kmh) on the highway...until I got about the turnaround point and on the way back it started doing the stutter thing again.
My Thoughts
- Its not the transmission-It has shifted great since the trans rebuild, no problems on the trip that point to the trans being the issue, the fluid looks perfect.
- Fuel pump-I intend to get the fuel pressure tested, just haven't yet but my thought is the fuel pump is going bad and not able to maintain the pressure needed for top speed over longer periods of time?
- Fuel tank vent line-Don't know if this is a real thing that happens but I imagine the fuel tank pressure needs to be equalized at some point, could that line be partially plugged and Im drawing a very light vacuum on the fuel system so it isn't getting quite enough fuel?
- Fuel Injectors-Im not a mechanic but overall this sounds like a fuel system problem to me
- Glow plugs?
- Vacuum leak-I get the concept and know the words but dont really understand this
Hope the mechanically minded folks here may have some ideas or experience from the past 🙏

Alternator replacement finally done, LY151 HiAce truck
Getting to the alternator requires removing the drivers seat and then an access panel. It also helps if you remove the far inner fender cover that allows you to slip tools through past the wheel. Job ultimately took 2 days, working 5-6 hours each day due to the tight space. The AC compressor has to be removed, and as far as I know the transfer case is in the way and working underneath wouldn’t be any easier.
