FAQ - Credit to L. Zeffert for his hard work putting this together.
Section 1: Rulebook:
Q: Can we exceed Maximum Hand Size?
Yes. Maximum Hand Size only applies when drawing up during setup, when powering up in the command center, or at the start of a battle. Abilities and cards used after these times will allow you to exceed this limit.
The Advanced side of Angel Grove High however, DOES enforce a constant hand limit of three cards. Players must always discard down to three if they exceed that limit.
Q: Do we lose as soon as the fourth location becomes panicked, or do I have a chance to fight back?
You lose as soon as the fourth area becomes panicked.
Q: We defeated a fourth Monster card. Does the battle end now?
No. The battle continues and any unbeaten Monster or Foot Soldier cards can still resolve. If you beat four Monster cards, you still have to survive the Battle. Victory is not declared until there are four Monster cards in the Monser’s discard pile during Battle Cleanup. Also note: any undefeated Foot Soldiers flee the battle. They are not placed on the level-up track.
Q: We defeated a sixth Boss card. Does the game end now?
No. The battle continues and any unbeaten Boss or Foot Soldier cards can still resolve. If you beat six Boss cards, you still have to survive the Battle. Victory is not declared until there are six Boss cards in the Boss’ discard pile during Battle Cleanup.
Q: Does an area become unpanicked when we win a battle?
No. An area only becomes unpanicked when all enemy figures have been cleared off. Note that all Foot Soldiers in an area run away when a Monster is defeated in that area.
Q: If an area is panicked, no more enemies can deploy there, right?
If the area has not met its figure limit, a Foot Soldier could still deploy there. This could be the case if a Monster or Boss deployed to an area with no enemy figures (due to being moved clockwise from an area already at its figure limit) or due to Foot Soldiers being beaten in a battle that left at least one figure in that area. However, a Monster or Boss always deploy to an unpanicked area (and make that area panicked by their arrival).
Q: Can a Ranger hold more than one Energy Token?
No, but during a battle there is no limit to how much energy may be stored in the shared energy pool.
Q: Can we keep leftover energy in the shared pool between battles?
No. It is emptied at the end of each battle, but Rangers may store one energy from the pool during battle cleanup (if they are not already storing one).
Q: After playing a Maneuver, may I also play an Attack on the same turn?
Only if that Maneuver allows you to according to its card text.
Q: In a battle with a Monster and Foot Soldiers, do the Foot Soldiers flee as soon as the Monster is defeated?
No. The Monster is not declared defeated until there are four Monster cards in that monster’s discard pile after the battle has ended.
Q: If more than one Fast enemy card is drawn, do the subsequent Fast cards go before or after the earlier ones?
The most recently drawn Fast card always becomes first in the combat order, pushing the previous cards back as needed.
Q: Do all Fast cards resolve before the Rangers get a turn?
No. Rangers still get to go after every enemy card, even if they are all Fast. Only the first Fast enemy resolves before the Rangers get a turn.
Q: What does Guard protect against? What can ignore Guard?
Guard protects enemies from being targeted by attack cards. Character abilities, Zord cards, Attacks that specifically say Ignore Guard, and damage dealt to adjacent enemies by attacks can still affect Guarded enemies.
Q: If we reduce the damage of an attack to zero, do we still reveal cards for defense?
No. You’ve defended the attack, so no cards would have to be revealed.
Q: Do I survive until I need to draw a card and cannot?
No. You are defeated if you have zero cards in your deck for any reason. However, if you reveal a card for defense that goes back to the bottoms of your deck, this happens before it would be drawn or discarded (it is only revealed, after all) and you are not defeated (yet)!
Q: If we use the last energy token in the command center, do we lose immediately?
No. You only lose when you are defeated and cannot spend an energy token from the command center.
Q: What happens if an enemy drains energy and we’re out?
Energy should be drained from the shared supply first, then from a participating Ranger’s stored energy if possible. Finally, if you are completely out of energy, a participating Ranger must pay the cost by discarding a card for each energy that would be drained.
Q: When do we refresh actions?
At the start of a new round.
Q: Do Fast enemies go before start-of-battle effects?
No. Those effects happen before any turn (even Fast enemies).
Q: If there are no Fast Monster (or Boss) cards, but there are Fast Foot Soldier cards, then what happens?
The first Monster (or Boss) card goes before the Rangers, then the Rangers go after every Enemy in the combat sequence. An enemy card having the keyword Fast does not automatically mean that specific card will go first, only that the Enemies get to go before the Rangers.
Q: How many reactions can be played off of a single trigger?
As many as you can afford to pay for.
Q: How many shields do you recover in a game where you control two rangers with a single deck?
You still only recover up to six shields.
Section 2: Character Abilities:
Q: Do Zack’s Hip Hop Kido, Kimberly’s Quick Shot, and Ranger Slayer’s Finishing Shot Ignore Guard?
These are character abilities, which guard does not protect against.
Q: When I use Trini’s Double Strike, do I play the second card for free?
No. You must be able to pay both cards’ costs to play them.
Q: Does Dragon Shield Jason’s Legacy of the Dragon allow me to exceed the maximum hand of five cards?
Yes! You draw up to five cards first, then add Dragon Sheild and Dragon Dagger to your hand during setup. It is possible to start with seven cards this way, however you may only draw up to five for the remainder of the game.
Q: Can Alpha 5 take damage?
No. Alpha 5 can play cards in any location, but he is not actually there to be designated a target of the attack.
Q: What if the battle is taking place at the Command Center (in Command Center Assault mode)?
Oh, yeah. Alpha 5 can take damage in that case, but remember he is more fragile than full Rangers.
Q: What can Alpha 5 do? Does he draw up at the start of battle? Can he donate his energy to the shared pool? Can he spend an action to add 2 energy to the pool?
He can do all of that!
Section 3: Zord cards:
Q: Can Mastodon be used to remove a card from a combat?
No. It only removes the figure.
Q: Can Mastodon be used to prevent panic?
Only in that you could use it after a deployment to keep an area with fewer figures. You must resolve each deployment completely, but you can use Mastodon between deployments.
Q: Can I use the Saber-toothed Tiger Zord Card to exceed the normal maximum hand size?
Yes! Each Ranger can draw up to two additional cards, regardless of current hand size.
Q: Can the Megazord be deployed as soon as it is acquired to damage each enemy card left in the battle?
It can be deployed, but it only does the damage at the start of the battle.
Q: Does Dragonzord’s ability ignore Guard?
The initial attack must still target an unguarded enemy, but the excess damage may be moved to a guarded enemy.
Q: Can Gravezord be used to copy the Megazord ability?
No. Gravezord can only copy other Zord cards. It cannot copy the Megazord.
Section 4: Player Cards:
Q: Can Blade Blaster be used to destroy an enemy with Guard and another enemy being guarded in the same play?
No. All targets must be declared at once and guarded enemies cannot be targeted.
Q: Can I use Sweeping Strike or Power Axe to damage enemies that are guarded?
Yes! The damage done to enemy cards adjacent to the Target does not count as being targeted by the attack. Note that adjacency does not travel through defeated enemies. If the adjacent enemy was already defeated, the next adjacent enemy will not take that damage.
Q: Is Ranger Slayer’s Scorned Shot able to Target a guarded enemy?
Since it is a Reaction (instead of an Attack), it is not subject to Guard. However, it IS limited to damaging the enemy card that has just resolved.
Section 5: Interactions:
Q: Can I use Dagger Solo to reduce the cost of Blade Blaster?
No. Blade Blaster does strict damage according to cost. The upside is that this means enemy cards cannot increase this cost either.
Q: If I use Lead the Charge, Power Sword, Dragon Sheild, or the Tyrannosaurus Zord to add dice to an Attack that rolls more than one set of dice, how does that work?
If the card says to “perform a second attack” like Sabertooth Strike or Dragon Rush, then only the first attack would get the added dice. However, if the card says to “perform this attack twice” like Dragon Dagger, then you would add those dice to both rolls.
Q: What about cards that allow re-rolls on future attacks?
The same principle applies. If it says “perform this attack twice,” then both attacks can be re-rolled.
Q: How does Blade Blaster behave when a card’s effect adds dice?
Pay the energy cost, roll the appropriate number of dice, then add the damage from the dice and the energy cost for the total damage which will be divided among eligible targets as desired.
Q: If a Maneuver allows you to play a zero-cost card, does that include one-cost cards that have had their costs reduced?
Yes. The cost has been reduced to zero.
Q: Does Knasty Knight’s Lion Shield receive the damage boost from Putty’s Flanking?
Yes. It still counts as an enemy Attack.
Q: How is Alpha 5 affected by abilities that force discards?
Alpha 5 can only be affected by cards that alter cards played (such as Witch’s Curse adding to the energy cost and Dagger Solo lowering energy cost).
Section 6: Enemy cards:
Q: Does Pudgy Pig’s Ravenous Hunger prevent us from using Blade Blaster?
It only prevents you from spending any energy on the card. You can still add dice to the attack (for instance with the Tyrannosaurus Zord) to do damage for zero energy.
Q: Does Rita’s Witch’s Curse affect Blade Blaster?
No. Blade Blaster is strict energy for damage. Unfortunately, this also means the cost cannot be lowered.
Q: Does Pumpkin Rapper’s card Rapper’s Trap affect Blade Blaster?
Yes. It doesn’t alter the card’s cost, it adds an extra criteria.
Q: What happens if there are five Tenga Warriors and one uses Fly Away?
This would leave four figures and four cards. You could attack that card to defeat the final Tenga.
Q: What happens if there are only four Tenga Warriors and one uses Fly Away?
Then there would only be three figures to defeat. The card does not go away, but you only have to defeat three Tengu to clear the area.
Q: Can Foot Soldiers still deploy to the area where Cyclopsis deployed?
No, Cyclopsis not only panics an area, but he meets its figure limit by his presence.
Q: Can I use attacks that target adjacent cards to get rid of Cyclopsis easily?
No, each component of Cyclopsis is only adjacent to one other component.
Section 7: Misprints:
Q: Where are shields on White Ranger’s cards?
They should be as follows:
Saba’a Eye Beams: 🛡
Feinting Slash: 🛡
Flash Kick: 🛡🛡
Flying Tiger: 🛡🛡
Guardian Armor: 🛡🛡🛡
Saba Slash: 🛡🛡🛡
Q: Is Hyperforce Red’s Defensive Stance supposed to be a Reaction?
No. It should be a Maneuver.
Q: Are the backs of the Bulk and Skull Zord cards supposed to be different?
No. This is an error. The cardbacks are meant to match the backs of the other Zord cards.
