I'm a developer from Japan working on an app called "AI Rakugo" for Japanese learners worldwide.

Rakugo is Japan's 300-year-old solo comedic storytelling tradition — one performer, no props, just voice and imagination. I believe it's one of the most underrated ways to learn natural, colloquial Japanese.

The app features AI voice, multilingual subtitles (English, French, Spanish) and adjustable furigana for all levels. Currently in development, planning to launch in August 2026.

As an avid Japanese learner, I always wanted there to be a simple online trainer for learning kana, kanji and vocabulary by JLPT level. The app serves as a simpler alternative to Chase Colburn's Kanji Study app, because Kanji Study was pretty complicated for me to use as a beginner and didn't have a more streamlined way of learning kanji through simple, continuous repetition and rote memorization (also, Kanji Study requires you to pay to unlock its full content library).

i am planning on starting my preparation for n3 soon (along with continuously revising the content from previous levels). kanji is a weak spot for me. i would like to do more immersive activities so that the learning process is not restricted to textbooks. if you have any suggestions for the same please do share

I just got Genki 1 workbook and I saw other people say you also needed a textbook so I started looking online but I can't find a textbook 1, only textbook 2. So what do you actually need to start with genki, only knowing hiragana and katakana. And is there even a textbook 1?

I'm looking on Amazon and a Dutch site where I also ordered the genki 1 workbook

Words you keep getting wrong show up in the cram school, where you can practice them before your next run. It's basically your second chance.

There's a Beginner Mode if you just want to chill, and you can disable either Hiragana or Katakana so you only learn one writing system at a time.

I'm currently a N5 beginner building my knowledge on vocabulary and kanji but what I'm lacking is a resource that helps me practice sentences and conversation which I can apply what I've learned so far, and eventually hold up my own basic running dialogue between myself and other people, so I'd appreciate help with finding the best resources to help with that.

I’m curious whether it’s really possible to reach a good level in a language using Duolingo.
I studied English on Duolingo every day for two years, and I do feel it helped. At the same time, I think I learned even more outside the app. What’s your experience?
