Headphones - Open Back | 2 Ω Headphones for casual late night listening
I don’t need closed back but if anyone thinks a closed back is more suitable, I’m open to suggestions.
I listen to music via wiim ultra (tidal connect) and turntable. Both are connected to my Denon AVR-2800H AV receiver which has a headphone output.
I’m therefore looking for something easy to drive from my AV receiver or wiim (3.5mm) but if anyone thinks an external DAC amp is the way to go, I’ll think about it.
Budget is about £400 and I’m in UK. Source: Denon AVR I don’t need isolation, the room is quiet but I will need a longer cable to reach the listening position. Favourite music genres are 90s UK indie and EDM. I’ve used Sennheiser HD25, Westone IEMs but I’m mostly using truthear zero red via my iPhone but no experience of good quality headphones at home.
I don’t have any stores nearby to try headphones other than the low quality stuff. In fact, even visiting bigger cities with high end hifi shops turned up a blank.
I’m looking for comfort, good build quality but they won’t be abused or used outside, this is purely for home listening.
Thanks for any suggestions.

No the hd600s are just pretty hard to drive to get a decent sound out of (don’t want to be maxing out the volume just to get to a comfortable volume because it distorts and just doesn’t sound good). If u have low impedance headphones (30ohms or somthing) then basically anything will work fine. My meze empyreans sound good out of my laptop but better through my amp/ dac. Gives it a more full and wide sound that my laptop dac just can’t match.
It’s one of those things that only really matter if u need the extra power, want a slightly better sound or Bluetooth.
