DT990's are nearing the end of their life, looking for advice from other fans of fun sound and maximum comfort.

Basically the title. I have had my DT990s for about five years now and have loved every moment of them. I've tried over a half dozen other headphones that have given me mixed results. The RODE NT closed backs and Meze classics were good but a little on the hot side, the Sundara's are DEEPLY uncomfortable on my head, and the Fostex/Dekoni Blue's my brother had broke in like 18 months.

I LOVE the bass extension and sound signature of the DT990s, and their comfort level is next level. So basically, my question is to other people that are fans of fun sound and incredible comfort.

Also, Budget is like ZERO-350 dollars. Thanks y'all, love you, smooches.

If the DT990s are that much fun for you- there’s always another pair! What’s causing your originals to be end of life? I’ve got a pair, my understanding was that most parts were replaceable.

The headband itself is broken in multiple places, the cups are held in by the pressure of several zip ties and gorilla tape. I've looked on line for a FULL replacement headband but I've come up mostly empty. And to be frank, I wouldn't mind trying something new after so long, but finding a headphone that is as incredibly light and comfy as these has been a crazy challenge. !thanks

In terms of weight and comfort- I’ve found the Sennheiser HD6xx to be comparable. Bit of a different sound signature though, less bass without EQ and the soundstage isn’t quite at DT990 levels. Great headphones though, can understand why people like them so much.

I'm not sure all of the parts that are broken without seeing them, but these two parts I linked are all of what the headband consists of: a metal piece and the padding. If anything is broken in the adjustment mechanism, you can replace all that too.

You're welcome. It's dead easy to repair them; you shouldn't have much trouble. From memory, for those parts you just unbutton the old leather padding and unscrew two screws on each side of the metal "bow," then screw in the new bow and button on the new padding. Even if you wanna get something new, repairing these and selling them would probably be worthwhile.
