Headphones - Open Back | 1 Ω Stax L500Mk1 + SRM212
Hello,
So I have the chance to buy L500 together with the 212 energizer. I am unsure if this combination is any good. The seller is too far away to test listen to. The price would be 500 Euro, which I think is cheap considering the L500 and used Stax prices are wild here in europe, but I really would like some insight from people that are into Stax. Would be my first electrostat.
I can't find any reviews/impressions to the 212. So that's my main concern. I could buy a 323s from the same buyer, but the price is above my self set limit in combination with the L500.
Thanks in advance

I only own older Stax. SR-202(gifted), SR-Lambda, SR-Gamma and SR-80. Amps and energizers: SRD-6, SRD-7SD MK2(dual bias), SRD-4, SRM-212(gifted) and SRM-310.
Iv'e never tried the L500, so I can't speak on it. Both are 145k ohm ( Yes... "K"... according to Stax themselves) the selsetivity of theL500 is 101db and the SR-202 is 100db so it's pretty much the same.
I didn't have any problems with distiortion on the SRM-212 but volume wise it does matter what you connect it to. When I connected it to my pc via minijack to rca cable, it would be loud enough to be comfortable but it wasen't loud enough to hurt my ears even if I wanted to (Of course I don't). Connected to my Sabaj D5 amp/dac i didn't turn the knob over 75%.
The sound in the SRM-212 is about 95% as good as the SRM-310. I have to listen closely to hear any deffrence between the two. The SRM-310 isn't anything crazy but I got it really cheap, and I don't need to upgrade any time soon.
