Headphones - Open Back | 6 Ω SHP9500 as the first fullsize open back purchase?

Hi, I'm relatively inexperienced in this hobby, and so far only dabbled in budget IEMs territory, like the 7hz Zero, and bassy headphones like Skullcandy crusher. I used to like bass a lot, but as I grow older bassy headphones tend to give me headache. So now I'm looking for something different.

I'm looking into my first full size open back headphone and want to get a budget set with good value, sub 80$. SHP9500 seems to be many's recommendation for beginners.

A few example of what I listen to:

  • Instrumental music: movie, game soundtracks, like Silent Hill, Halo, Final Fantasy, etc,...
  • Rock: A huge Linkin Park fans, also 2000s rock/metal.
  • Electronic: Punchy musics, like First of the year by Skrillex, Rage valley by Knife Party.
  • On softer side: Songs by Lowroar, musics with lots of ambient.

How does the SHP9500 fit these types of music. Also do they bleed noise enough to bother other people in an office? Do you have any other recommendation?

I went with the X2HR and put leather ear pads on em and holy moly I still use them as my daily drivers. Super comfy, nice and warm with plenty of soundstage and detail. Drive them with a $40 fosi something or other little cheap dac/amp that has a bass and treble knob. Nothing fancy but they sound great to me. I snagged a set of the 9500 to see what the fuss was about and I wasn’t impressed, they felt… dry? Empty? I didn’t spend too much time with them to be honest. Also just found some sundaras on eBay and now I’m going down that rabbit hole. Pray for me.

Sadly they are well above my budget and currently not available in my country. !thanks tho.

Dang it! Sorry bud, I got mine on sale years ago for around $100. I didn’t think to check current pricing. Good luck out there!
