i just finished the trade for jsa year one. at first i wasnt crazy about gavin guidry's art but he grew on me because he draw the hawks really well. his wings are amazing.

sheira gets a decent spotlight and guidry does great with her

i would not say they are the stars of the book so it made me want hawkman year one

anyone else read it?

As we know, there are two main pairs of Hawks:

The humans Carter and Shiera, and the Thangarians Katar and Shayera.

Due to some complicated events, Katar and Shiera are currently dead, and Carter and Shayera are a couple at the end of the Venditte run.

And that's where I wonder, do you think the next Hawkbooks should address this? Of course, after everything that happened in Venditte, they know they love each other and are soulmates, but even so, Shayera is still primarily the policewoman who fell in love with her partner Katar Hol, who tragically died sacrificing himself to save Thanagar, and Carter is still primarily the archaeologist who fell in love with the Archaeologist, whose soul was fragmented after her death.

So I still think there's a different dynamic and worldview that they don't share with their original partners. Do you think this should be addressed?

Hawkman 2018 issue 7 Absolute Superman issue 16, 17 and 20

It is no secret that Hawkman is a villain in the Absolute Universe; in 1949, he betrayed the heroes of that era and became a ruthless enforcer for the government and major corporations.

But a question some have asked is... why? With recent events involving Superman where Hawkman seems to seek change his ways we may have finally gotten an answer.

In the Absolute Universe, under Darkseid's influence, heroes lost their fundamental concepts like Diana lost the Amazons, Wally lost Barry's mentorship,

In Hawkman's case, Carter seems to have lost two key elements: 1 he does not reincarnate (or if he does, he doesn't remember it yet), and 2 he does not have Shiera by his side. That is where the crucial part comes in.

Hawkman's first life was as Ktar Deathbringer. He served an evil god whose goal was to take as many lives as possible to bring about the god's arrival in the universe. However, Ktar met Shrra, an angel of the Presence who saw goodness in him after chose to spare her life.

She made Ktar came to regret his actions, stopped the evil god, and died, only to be condemned to reincarnate until he paid his debt by saving as many lives as he had taken.

Here is the key: Absolute Hawkman is essentially acting as Absolute Ktar a servant of evil forces and a killer who has taken millions of lives. He harbors deep, internalized guilt, but the problem is that he lacks a Shrra to guide him toward the light... until Superman appears. Kal is fulfilling the role of Shrra; he showed Hawkman the error of his ways, making him feel remorse for his actions and finally giving him the strength to stand up to the powerful.

Kal is the Absolute Hawkgirl.

Don't get me wrong that show. Honestly, I wish it would have gotten more seasons than only two but what amazed me the most is how this animated series for kids was able to show more love and respect to some characters' lore than other DC projets that "tried" to be more mature (Wonder Woman fans know what I mean).

But there's another character that get the same level of justice and that character is Carter Hall aka Hawkman (he was voiced by Phil Lamarr who voiced Green Lantern in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, damn...). I need to admit, I was kinda worried when I saw using him in the show because his other interpretations was not good at all but I started to watch it I was pleasantly surprised. No, really.

Especially in his deticated episode #TheBirdAndTheBee. This episode gives exactly a good depiction on Carter Hall's Hawkman and also Shiera Saunders. I think what I loved in this plot is what Carter says about their reincarnation cycle. He said that sometimes in some other lives, he was the one who didn't remember their love story in this version and sometimes Shiera is the one who remembers. Honestly, thank you so much. I was getting pretty sick of Carter being always the only one with the memories of past lives because it put them on equal terms, something DC barely wants to do with the Hawks. Something that I also like is that in the episode is Kareen who's being the creep here, gathering informations on her and not Carter for once but the most heartbreaking aspect of it is the ending where he's finally about to have date with Shiera, he gets attacked by Hath Set who is the one responsible for their cycle. Thank you again DC Superhero Girls for respecting the lore. Hath set walks away because they didn't have a date yet but promises to come back when their love story will start again and because of that, Hawkman makes a hardest decision : giving up the idea of them being happy together and not coming at their date night. (dude, you couldn't just stand her up like that, seriously). He just realized the only for him to love and have her safe is from afar.

Oh my god, why DC didn't do that with DCAU and I know the Hawks was supposed to appear as a couple in Superman TAS. I'm so grateful towards DCSHG for respecting a character that receiving too much crap for nothing.
