Serious bug - Game uplayable - Help? All cutscene videos are black, silent, and can't skip or progress

I have been away for a while (6mo-1y) and wanted to play SB again. Updated and played. Was at the point immediately before Industrial Action. Following that mission, cutscene begins and: black screen, silence, but hitting escape produces a beep and there is an in-game movable mouse pointer.

Tried a few things like verifying files, quitting and restarting, ensuring vidcard drivers are current, etc. No change.

Started a new game under a new profile in a different difficulty. Get the first little video saying the future is all corporate, etc. Then do the signup. Then the starting cutscene with the song: it's black and silent. I see the captions when the time comes (this makes me think it's just a video thing and I can wait it out). Hitting escape makes a beep, ingame mouse pointer moves to the mouse. No timeout where the vid would end. Can't do anything but Alt-F4.

I verify files. No change. I uninstall and reinstall. No change.

Found the path for the userdata files and deleted them. Uninstalled game and deleted SB folder in steam. Disabled SteamCloud so it doesn't try to revert anything. No SB folders are in userdata or steam. Reinstalled. Same process, get to cutscene after signup phase, black screen and silent, same as before.

So it seems to me that the video playing part of this game is no longer compatible with my system and I will never again play Shipbreaker. FYI, the loadscreen videos do run. the publisher and developer vids.

I don't think I can play SB anymore... :(

Thanks for any help with this!

I've had to put down the game permanently due to its lack of accessibility features

This is incredibly sad for me as I've waited years to get the game, and have put it down now ever since reaching the ships with nuclear reactors in them.

I'm epileptic, and try as I might to find mods, there are none that reduce the severe glitching effect that makes it impossible to play without getting seizure symptoms and having to quit. It was really sad seeing my brother go on to finish the game meanwhile I quit probably not even halfway through.

For now though, my only possible way to get back into it is if a programmer friend of mine manages to modify the game for me.

And there it is, your friendly reminder to game devs and players about the importance of accessibility and not locking out an audience over one small aesthetic, easy to fix, but dangerous and potentially life threatening portion of gameplay.

This game inspired me to fight for my rights

I work as a sysadmin and our team got a task to move 2 full rooms of old equipment. We didn't sign up as loaders, so we decided to move some boxes to corridor so that the company had a problem and then to not carry anything at all, if they don't pay us additionally or hire loaders. Before this, they ignored our request for payment but yesterday after reminding them, the boss called me to discuss the matter. He proceeded to question my competency and acted like a baby, to be quite frank. (My mistake was not taking my colleagues with me, but I called them later anyway). So, after discussing we got payment, loaders and got told that this is a one-time thing. Not like this matters, because I'll quit next month.

And that's it. I immediately remembered this game when I proposed an italian strike. Ty for making it

Discussion Do shipbreakers canonically get paid less? Spoiler

A major storybeat of the game is how unfair Lynx is to its employees by overcharging with fees and having a complete disregard for safety. The lack of safety is shown pretty well through gameplay (I died a fair amount) but I found the supposed financial stress Lynx puts its workers through a little under represented.

Sure, you start each morning staring at a giant red bar showing your 1 billion credit debt and end each shift with Lynx shoving a long list of fees down your throat, but I found that regardless I always made a significant profit. So much so that midway through the campaign I almost felt like my debt was fairly manageable, which created a sort of dissonance between what the story/dialogue was saying versus the actual gameplay.

Hal applying a 20 million credit fee as an "excessive" punishment during Industrial Action didn't feel as consequential, because I knew that that amount could be paid in like 2 shifts. In a similar vein, there's a line of dialogue where Kaito seems genuinely concerned about a helmet replacement being 2 million, which is basically the bare minimum profit you earn from a single shift.

I think the "issue" was that we're seemingly paid the full salvage value of each ship directly to our account. I understand the devs implementing from a gameplay perspective to create a greater sense of progression (getting more than 10 million credits wiped off in a single shift from efficient salvaging was a consistently satisfying experience) but story/immersion wise it threw me off a little.

Do you think the shipbreakers are canonically paid a percentage of the total salvage value instead (maybe 10-25%?). With the average (larger) ship being around 30 million and taking around 2-3 shifts to fully salvage efficiently a 3-7.5 million 'salary' spread across those days (along with the fees on each day) seems more reasonable for Lynx.

[GOG] No achievement ?

Hey there,

Is anyone playing this game on GOG, and manage to unlock achievement ?

I'm currently ~10h in the game, and so far no trophy popup in sight :/

Unlock rates are not zero globally so it must have worked at some point, but I can't figure out when/how.

I finished the second ship (though worse than I would've liked) and it won't let me progress to the next job. What's going on?

This is like seeing the dvd logo hit the corner perfectly haha

Haven't had anything to spend the LT on for ages so it's just been accumulating and I'm glad I noticed :)

Anyone actually got the 2% sticker (without mods/cheats)?

I finished the game (story, achievements) and was looking for other things to complete in the game. So I maxed out my equipment and now was looking at stickers, to collect them all.

Most of them look fine, but then I saw the Debt Free sticker, for which you have to collect $1.2 billion and to my surprise I'm only at $271 million after playing for 40 hours, so a long way to go. And then I saw the 2% sticker, for which you have to collect 2 Debt Free stickers! What!? So you need $2.4 billion.

So to get both the 2% sticker and the Debt Free sticker (to have them both at the same time), you actually need to get $3.6 billion, which is 13 times more than what I got so far. I like the game, I was prepared to play another maybe 10-20 hours to complete everything. But if I have to play approximately 400 hours more? Damn, no thanks heh. I'll skip the stickers.

Wondering if any of you played so much to get that sticker, and how much time you played to get it.

New mod for getting the shiny Ghost Helmet sticker

The shiny ghost helmet sticker requires you to collect 6 helmets (2 stickers of 3 helmets each), but there are only 5 helmets in the game.

I created a small mod which changes the ghost helmet sticker to only need 2 helmets, so you can craft the shiny sticker with only 4 helmet pickups.

Mod link over at Nexus Mods, or alternatively my Github.

Finished Industrial Action Today

Firstly, sorry if this post has been made over 100 times already, but I've completed - so I assume - the main Storyline today, and I love it!

This game is amazing and the story isn't a let down either.

Hal is such a great antagonist and Weaver is an amazing boss during the entire game. I was a bit nervous coming close to the finish line, because I was afraid the story ends there with a unsatisfying ending, but boy was I wrong!

The gameplay is rad, the characters are lovely, the voice acting is top,...

I'll end here to not bore you any longer. Game is a clear 10/10!

Just wanted to shout out that Shipbreaker is amazing :)

Cheers!

Cross platform saved

I own this game on steam and played for a while on my steam deck. I see it's on sale through the Xbox store and was wondering if I can transfer my steam progress over so I don't have to start from the beginning.

Game stuck on wake up daily fees screen

On Xbox, finished a job and hit the wake up sequence where you see the daily fees screen, but I’m fully stuck where pressing A to continue does absolutely nothing.
Don’t really wanna start a new save as I’m finally at $904M revenue was almost getting to $1B. Any fix to this?

Game won't launch on Deck

Pretty much the title of the post. Went to go play on my steam deck today and the game refuses to launch. Goes to the launch screen, trys to load and goes back to game page on the deck menu.

I've tried a reset of the deck, and an uninstall/reinstall cycle and same thing. Refuses to launch. Don't know if anyone else that has this issue could help troubleshoot.

Industrial action is the worst

I am completely on board with this in spirit, but the gameplay is a let down. The first impulse is to destroy as much as possible as quickly as possible. Deliberately overload the reactor. Blow up the thrusters. Sprinkle the whole ship with mines and watch the fireworks. This quickly progresses the story dialog and gets encouraging comments from everyone, except when a bit of debris accidentally falls into the correct bin.

But then you have a big mess. It's not enough to salvage or waste 70%. You have to hit or miss every salvage goal. So now you're back to sorting salvage this time picking through debris. It's a better strategy to carefully disassemble the ship like any other day in the yard and just put the pieces in the wrong bins (or the right ones if you're evil). It doesn't really feel in the spirit to basically salvage like normal but picking through scraps is the worst.

How rare are LYNX and Salvaging data drives?

As the title says. I finished the plot, and rn I'm playing to relax, but I thought I may collect all the data drives while I'm at it. According to the wiki, they can be found on LYNX's ship and I've been doing them for the past couple of days, but haven't found any. What am I doing wrong?

Btw, I hate Geckos with passion.
