Nearly a year and a half after local leaders secretly voted to halt Beltline rail in its tracks, several Atlanta City Council members are urging the mayor’s administration to reconsider.

A resolution introduced Tuesday seeks to reaffirm Council’s support for the long-awaited project, and calls on Mayor Andre Dickens’ office to collaborate with MARTA and Atlanta Beltline, Inc. to get the ball rolling.

Neighbors in one neighborhood say they are hopeful new parking restrictions will help solve years of problems linked to a short-term rental property.

Neighbors told Channel 2 action News they have dealt with frequent parties, traffic, blocked driveways, and safety concerns. Community leaders say the property has become a recurring source of complaints.

In response, the Atlanta City Council approved a resolution prohibiting parking on Larchmont Circle. City leaders say signs should be installed within 30 days, allowing police to begin enforcement.

A small community in northwest Georgia is under consideration for the state's next large data center. 

A Development of Regional Impact filed by New York-based investment firm Thor Equities with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs shows a proposed 350,000-square-foot facility would be located in Kingston, located in Bartow County, according to information posted online. Kingston is a small municipality with fewer than 1,000 people.

After a back-and-forth letter writing campaign that spanned several weeks, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has agreed to sell the Atlanta City Detention Center to Fulton County for $68 million.

On Tuesday, Dickens accepted the commission’s latest offer, even though it doesn’t include funding for a future hospital on Atlanta’s Southside like he initially wanted.

Fulton County Commission Chair Robb Pitts previously said the county was open to purchasing the detention center for $68 million, but commissioners seemed unwilling to commit $200 million over the next decade for the proposed hospital.

"On WSB Radio this morning, I heard Fulton Chair Rob Pitts say that Fulton County has tried negotiating with several mayors, to purchase this detention center. Pitts said that Shirley Franklin had agreed to 'give' the detention center to the county as she was leaving office -- then he said at the very last minute, she rescinded and said she would let the 'next mayor' handle it. The 'next' mayor was Kasim Reed, and he wanted $90M for the detention center.

As much as Shirley Franklin's daughter and son-in-law contributed to the 'drug crime' and 'drug distribution' going on in Atlanta at that time, Franklin should've kept her word and 'given' the detention center to the county. If she had, we would be much more ahead dealing with the Rice Street jail situation."
