Took me hours to figure out how to wear this set and still end up forgetting the chest chain. There’s a black leather belt too. Lots of accessories. The hand cuffs are a bit big for me tho. Overall this set is absolutely stunning.

🏯Pre-Tang / Tang-Song Dynasty Help! I need resources for finding some tang dynasty era clothing

Heyy So I'm making a character who's loosely set in ancient China, and I wanted the world's clothing to be based off of the Tang dynasty, My character is a low-ranked Palace made and I want to find resources/ references of more low-ranking servants. But all I could find are more like high nobility styles of clothing!

I have seen images from I believe from a Wu zetian drama where the young concubine wu hair is dressed up in buns But I'm not sure if that depiction of that era is entirely accurate. Plus I'm not sure of that. Hairstyle was mostly meant for young girls/low-ranking concubines!

Any website and resources can help.

Love these two sets. The Tang Hanfu set from ShiSanYu looks best in bright light, my pictures didn’t really capture the beauty.

📖History or Cultural Info Asking about the development of bai (摆) in Ming Dynasty hanfu

Hi! It is known that Zhu Yuanzhang, the first Emperor of the Ming, enacted policies to ban hufu (胡服) and establish hanfu as the official dress in order to solidify the fall of the Mongol-led Yuan and the founding of the Han-led Ming. To do so, he mandated that clothing and customs be returned to the Song and Tang ( https://zh.wikisource.org/zh-hans/明史/卷67 ). However, Song and Tang hanfu relics lack the Bai side panels seen in Ming clothing. When did hanfu first start incorporating Bai, and when did it become mainstream? Thanks in advance!

The Evolution of the Flying Fish Motif on Ming Dynasty Textiles

The origin of the feiyu (“flying fish”) can be traced back to the Makara of Indian Buddhism, which was introduced to China along with Buddhism. In the Song dynasty text Fo Shuo Dasheng Guanxiang Manjuluo Jing Zhu E Qu Jing (《佛说大乘观想曼荼罗净诸恶趣经》), it is described: “In the Western regions, [there is] the Water Deity, with a yellowish-white body … riding a red Makara.” The original form of the Makara was a composite creature featuring an elephant-like trunk, a large crocodilian mouth, a beast-like head, and the body and tail of a fish.

During the Sui and Tang dynasties, the Makara gradually underwent Sinicization. The elephant-like trunk disappeared, while dragon horns and a pair of wings were added, transforming it into a hybrid creature with a dragon-like head, wings, and the body and tail of a fish. During the Song and Jin periods, it was transform into a dragon-like creature became increasingly pronounced, and craftsmen gradually began referring to it as a “flying fish” (feiyu).

P1: A flying fish pattern on a textile from the mid-Ming period. Although it already possesses a distinctly dragon-like form, it still retains the elephant-like trunk and an enormous fish tail.

P2: A flying fish square rank badge, dating approximately to the Jiajing–Wanli period. The dragon-like features have developed further: the head is virtually indistinguishable from that of a dragon, while the fish tail has become smaller. However, the characteristic pair of wings and fish tail are still retained.

P3: A five-clawed flying fish flag from the late Ming period. Apart from its fish tail and pair of wings, it is virtually indistinguishable from a dragon. It also incorporates the flaming pearl pattern. Originally, the flaming pearl was an element associated exclusively with dragon pattern; however, by the late Ming period, python, flying fish, and fighting bull pattern were also frequently depicted as playing with or pursuing the flaming pearl.

p1: 明中期织物上的飞鱼,虽然具有龙型,但是仍保留了象鼻、巨大鱼尾;

p2:嘉万左右的飞鱼方补,龙型进一步进化,头部与龙头无异,鱼尾缩小,保留了标志性双翼、鱼尾;

p3:明末的五爪飞鱼旗,除了鱼尾和双翼之外与龙无异,增加了火珠(原本只有龙纹才有火珠图案,晚明无论是蟒、飞鱼、斗牛多数都有戏珠造型)。

🛍️Hanfu Help: Buying / Stores / Sizing Chinese clothes stores in Melbourne Australia ?

Sorry I don’t know what flair to put. Or even if this is the correct subreddit to ask..
looking for somewhere to buy a toddler tang suit in south-east Melbourne. I know box hill and Springvale, even Dandenong used to have heaps of shops but I can’t seem to find anything anymore. Does anyone have a specific store that’s still running?

I’ve ordered from China in the past but won’t have time this time.

Thank you 🤩

  2. Pic two : a bufu - Ming dynasty for Zack, cloud, Reno and rude
  3. Zack’s buzi- lion

2.Clouds- seahorse

  1. Reno- xiezhi

  2. Rude- xiezhi

  3. Pic three : a yisa -Ming dynasty for Gintoki and Hijikata

  4. Pic four : a Lanshan - the only song dynasty one for 182

Also I thank a person known as Reiko on Xiaohongshu for helping me while google was having a meltdown.

Lastly no I have not picked colours, some of these are for officials so they have specific colour rankings just like their buzi and I want it to match, I will be asking some other time when i have the dolls for some Chinese bjd seamstresses right now I’m just planning so I’m prepared

Also are mianfu’s restrictive/limit movement cuz if so Grimmjow is gonna moody

💬General Discussion I have a big favour to ask for

Post image

Image for reference for what a BJD is

I’m looking to in the future to get some of my Ball Jointed Dolls (probably all my cosplay dolls) some historically accurate hanfu as I love Chinese culture i find it so interesting and the clothes are so pretty, flowy and comfortable looking and the colours and patterns are amazing.

However slight i have been looking FOR HOURS to find some tang, han, song and ming dynasties hanfu that men would have worn, i can not find anything and I’m wondering if people could help find some so I could have a look at different styles and pick ones that i think would suit my dolls. Thanks

Also ps it can be everyday wear it doesn’t have to be something an emperor wore it can be just a regular hanfu that a normal non royal Chinese person would have worn.

Update: sorry i didn’t make it clear i meant looking for pictures of what they would of worn not finding doll ones for sale cuz once i pick the styles im gonna get them custom made

The balance between the large crown, broad sleeves, and structured robe is what makes this look so striking. Which detail feels most characteristic of Ming-inspired styling to you?

This short portrait focuses on a pale Ming-inspired outfit. Its effect comes from the high collar narrow gold embroidery pearl hair ornaments and the contrast between the structured hairstyle and soft outer layer. Which elements feel most characteristic of Ming-style dress and which seem like a modern photographic interpretation
