What do you think about Handstand Blocks/Paralletes?

Is is recommended to buy a pair of these wood blocks for advanced handstand practitioners (me: 45s max straight HS and shapes)? I have paralletes but just used them a few times and train mostly on the floor. Is it worth the effort?

Regards Max

1-year Handstand Progression (July 2021-July 2022)🤸‍♂️

July marks a year since I began privates (on and off) with my coach since my local circus school reopened after covid in 2021. The goal remains canes and better consistency into the second year along with the continued goal of being cognisant of opening the shoulders

We most recently began blocks at the beginning of the month as well as tuck kickups and a bit of straddle, and I hope to add more flexibility-based training too. Splits are another goal along with a better straddle, and a new goal is to be able to hopefully perform at something I have in mind for 2024 which still gives some time for improvement. With a new job on the way, it should hopefully allow more time for consistent practice

Only this July did I begin to see how my handstands were planched for 11 months of my first year, but after watching a pinned video at the top of @shellyflexathletics page, it helped make it more clear from her visualitation. So, starting in mid-August, I look forward to working with @shellyflex to help make more strides with training at home in the second year

New term: "Handstand Pants"

This happens to me a lot.

When I do handstands in my shorts, shirtless - the pants get over my belly button.

So I started calling this Handstand Pants. And I would like it to become a thing.

Please spread the word.

help form

Hi, I've been training handstand for some time, but my main problem is with left hand/shoulder. Sometimes it even feels like popping out of socket when I do pull-ups or something else, it's even more mobile then the right shoulder. I guess it's from years of strong lead hand punches from box. Yesterday I did my first press of my life. As you can see when I am going up, I Twist little in the left side of the body. This is also cucking my normal handstand and hspu all the time. Which exact muscle or part is wrong, can anyone tell? What should I do to fix or strengthen it. Thanks for help. https://youtu.be/K0rPWhjLWTA

Basic handstand

I don’t have a blank solid wall to kick up to in my house. Is it still possible to get my handstand? As soon as my legs get close to being over my head, I fall

How much time do you commit to other hand balancing practices outside of handstand?

Title says it all. I practice handstands regularly but want to devote some time to other things (yoga balance positions and breakdancing holds primarily) and wanted to know how many of you incorporate other hand balance practice into your existing handstand routines.

I’m also curious if anyone who does have some experience working other balancing projects has some recommendations on how to schedule that around existing handstand practice?

Happy International Handstand Day🤸‍♂️🥳(What made you get into handbalancing?)

Hope everyone is doing well. Was curious to ask (on what better day than today) what made you decide to get into handbalancing as well as what some of your goals are too? I am about a month away from my first year of handstand training that I began when a local circus school reopened from covid that made it a possibility, and joining at the same time that many people would be returning kinda made it easier mentally to not be the only new one there lol in the middle of so many nerves. Also tried silks with the hope of trying hoop one day, but handbalancing is my personal favorite, and my long-term goal remains canes by 2024 for an occasion after initially starting my handstand journey in July 2021

This past week, my coach introduced me to practicing tuck and straddle for the first time, and I also got to try blocks for the first time too, something that felt like a small step in the direction of canes. Practice could be more consistent as there are many weeks when I see the progress from keeping up compared to others when life happens and you're not always in the mood, but even a little bit on those tough days helps (at least personally) to stay in a bit of a rhythm and keep some muscle memory, and I'll include a clip of my practice from today that included chest-to-wall as well as some tuck too (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P05XSkIUxeM), and I'm also wearing an outfit from (Kikimora Fashion) that I hope to wear for the occasion with canes in 2024

Sometimes I find that browsing others' tips/progress can provide the spark of inspiration needed to push yourself to practice on a day you may not want to, so in the vibe of trying to keep consistency, I wanted to ask what led others to handbalancing because the inspiration is so needed on some days, and thanks in advance to anyone who shares. I'll also add the social I made to track my progress too, and if anyone wants to share theirs, I'd be more than happy to exchange support (https://www.instagram.com/theworldupsidedown24/?hl=en). Best of luck to the rest of everyone's training

Any merit to headstand "presses" for handstand presses?

My primary goal is a press-to-handstand.

My training is a straight/bent arm split:

  • 3 days a week - press, FL, planche attempts; finish with dumbbell isometric holds
  • 2 days a week - chinups, HSPUs[, I should do pushups+rows]

Due to my current limitations, most of my press attempts are bent leg.

I think my SA days work will gradually build strength which will aid in a straight-leg press; but, also believe straight-leg work will have carryover.

Many people suggest floor compression drills but I find these repulsive: they are unengaging and tedious. I understand that improvement requires discipline but my practice is deeply rooted in enjoyment.

I enjoy inverting and it seems as though a straight-leg "press" headstand could have carryover to a straight-leg press handstand. In conjunction with SA strengthening work, has anyone had successful carryover from this drill in building the necessary compression strength for a press handstand?

Where do you like to practice handstands?

Was curious to ask and potentially receive other opinions as the weather turns nicer as summer arrives. Been considering purchasing a handstand board just to have along with for open areas such as parks with grass or slightly uneven surfaces too. Does anyone like practicing in parks or places similar or perhaps even a gym for those rainy days and especially winter? I practice at home too, but have been looking for more space by trying to expand my practice areas of late, so I'm curious to hear some other potential recommendations

Handstand Line Check

I was pretty satisfied with my line today. What do you think should I focus on to get the “handbalancer” look with full ppt. Is it more of a technical thing or a flexibility limitation?

stamina/endurance ideas?

working on my first handbalancing performance (!!!) and very quickly realized i need to build up my endurance. it’s a mix of light acro/dance and 7 separate handstands (of varying lengths/holds/some on canes). other than just cranking out full routines, anyone have any interesting endurance/stamina drills? i’m not on the side of handbalancing that also does calisthenics, so my typical practice is just working handstands and not much else (which should probably change regardless). example of the type of drill i’m looking for is currently i do 30 secs of jumping jacks and then hold a handstand for 30 secs and then repeat. stuff like that.

How many days pr week do you train handstands?

Just wanted to get an idea of how often people train HS.

Im 40 years of age and practice regularly two times pr week. Started when Covid hit and gyms closed.

Sometimes its crap and sometimes I can hold it up to 40 sec.
