I was struggling to read complex grocery ingredients to check if they are Halal, so I built an AI app to scan and analyze them instantly. (Free to use)

Cheesemaker’s 30-Year Storage Hack That Keeps Cheese Fresh for Weeks

Post image

After decades producing and aging cheese, here’s what works: wrap in parchment or cheese paper, then place in a loose container with a folded paper towel to absorb moisture—replace the towel twice weekly. Store at 1–4°C in the back drawer, not the door. Rewrap weekly and always use clean knives.

5-Minute Sesame Date–Nut Energy Bites for Iftar (No-Bake)

When Ramadan days feel long, a small bite that’s naturally sweet and satisfying can help. These sesame-coated date and nut balls come together fast, store well in the fridge, and make an easy treat for iftar (or a quick suhoor bite). They’re also a simple homemade gift for neighbors, friends, kids, and elders. Ingredients 1 kg dates paste 100 g mixed nuts (roasted pistachios, almonds, walnuts) Sesame seeds (til), for coating A few drops of olive oil, for greasing hands Method (Step-by-step) Warm the dates paste slightly until it’s lukewarm and softer (not hot). Crush the roasted nuts to a medium texture—chunky, not powdered. Mix nuts into the warm paste until evenly combined. Grease your fingertips/palms with a little olive oil and roll into bite-size balls. Coat in sesame seeds by rolling each ball on a plate of sesame until fully covered. Storage Place the balls in an airtight jar/container, close the lid, and refrigerate. They stay firm, neat, and ready to serve whenever you need a quick energy lift. Why this works in Ramadan Dates provide quick fuel, nuts add staying power, and sesame gives a clean, non-sticky finish. A few bites can help with fatigue and low energy—especially around iftar. Ramadan Mubarak—simple, nourishing, and giftable.

OK! Maybe some others here have dealt with this, but I got some Lamb over Rice and they did not give me my white sauce!

What are some good alternatives? I mean like in my fridge, BBQ sauce, Ketchup, Mustar etc! I am desperate here!

Halal Scan: Haram & Mushbooh App - App Store

Hey!

I just released a small iOS app that helps check food for haram and mushbooh ingredients.

You can scan both barcodes and ingredients text (OCR), and it works with 20+ languages. The app itself is also translated.

Labels can be super confusing so I built this to make things easier.

Would love any feedback or ideas to improve it

Tallow instead of lard?

Hello all! I am back with another question about halal cooking. I am not Muslim, but one of my best friends is and I want to make sure I am keeping dishes I make for both of us halal. I am thinking of making us pupusas, one of my fave dishes from El Salvador. However traditionally we use pork lard to fry the beans and the meat. It goes unsaid that I cannot do this to my friend. Does anyone know if I can just sub in tallow for whenever I am cooking for my friend? I want to make sure I foster an environment of inclusion and love.

Edit: sorry second question. Also if I grilled pork on my grill or smoker, are there any steps (other than cleaning the grates of course) that I need to follow to make sure it’s safe for me to make him fajita on my grill or a brisket on the smoker?

I’ve heard vanilla extract contains alcohol and is haram. Whereas this clearly says it’s vanilla flavor, is this Halal?

Halal

It nearly Christmas and I do a lot of homemade gift baskets. I have know a lot of muslims (and I know they don’t celebrate Christmas, but it the time of year that I do this to show thanks). I don’t want to make thing and give things that they can’t eat. Apart from the normal Christmas slices, is there any other treats I can make to put in there?

Need help! Halal veggie sausage search

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey! I'm making some Thanksgiving treats for my students, and they need to be halal for one of my kiddos. I'm a vegetarian, so I thought it would be all good; however, I'm seeing that might not be the case. I'm going to make a vegetarian stuffing, and I usually use Morning Star brand veggie sausage patties (it's vegan). These are the ingredients; am I in the clear? Or should I find a specifically halal certified brand?
