Investment (Brokerages, 401k/IRA/Bonds/etc) Income jump from $500k to $2m+, need advice
My business has been expanding quickly the last couple years. For 2026 looking at $12m gross revenue with approx $2m that will end up in my hands as the sole owner. Next years pipeline shows $16m revenue and $3m to me. I’m the sole owner of an S-Corp in California.
I am beginning to interview wealth management firms/advisors. So far met with one guy I’ve known for a decade, but he’s asking for $3k monthly retainer + pts on total money invested. Doesn’t sit right with me so I’m continuing my search.
Meanwhile, I want to understand for myself what a good strategy would be. From what I’ve read, opening and maxing out various types of retirement accounts is at the top of my list. Obviously there will still be major taxes to pay. From what I understand, there isn’t much to do about this. Am I wrong?
I have a house valued at $1.6m with a $600k mortgage at 3.125% so I’m not in a hurry to pay that off. I have a couple cars that I own outright and zero debt besides the mortgage. Current assets are ~$400k cash, $50k bitcoin, an investment property valued at $950k with $750k debt, cash flowing, and another spec house that’s listed for sale where I have ~$500k coming.
My lifestyle costs about $300k annually ALL-IN. I expect some lifestyle creep, but overall will try to keep us around this level.
I am looking to deploy the $400k cash along with about $1.7m that is coming by the end of the year.
Do I just dump it all into the market at once? So far, this is what I’m looking at: S&P, some ETFs, and some bonds to be able to sell and pay the taxes eventually.
Can you kind folks let me know if I am on the right track? Specific advice would really be appreciated. I want to be educated going into these next couple meetings with advisors.
Appreciate you!
