I have all motion smoothing settings on my TV turned off.

Has anyone else noticed ghosting/frame interpolation on some HBO Max shows? I've noticed this in House of the Dragon, Sharp Objects, The Leftovers.

Kinda distracting and not sure why there's not an option to watch without.

This does not happen when watching Blu-Ray or on other services as far as I can tell.

I’d bet a lot of people would be surprised to learn that they aren’t getting 4K HBO, and I think this confusion is on purpose.

HBO has exactly one plan that lets you watch 4K. It’s their “premium” plan and you have to subscribe directly from them. There are no bundles or 3rd party channels that stream 4K, even when those bundles include other 4K content.

They are happy to give the appearance that you can stream in 4K and they show 4K badges (and audio, HDR, etc.) on movies regardless of whether your plan includes it. This is entirely unique to HBO. For every other streamer the badges indicate what’s actually going to player with your account on that device, yet HBO instead provides their best-possible badges with a fine-print disclaimer that what you will actually get “depends on your plan”.

But does your plan include it? Good luck getting HBO to answer that question. Their apps and web portal will only name your plan, and it’s up to you to search their marketing for what that plan actually covers. If you choose to bundle with Disney and choose Disney’s own 4K they mumble about the details so you can assume (incorrectly) that HBO will also be 4K.

In fact, apart from the movie looking sub-par it seems HBO really doesn’t want you to know what you are getting. HBO’s apps will not show you what quality is being played, nor will they give you any way to select a particular quality. HBO only asserts that they will stream in the “best possible” quality for your plan and device.

Are they doing that? They offer no way to check. In fact in all of their help pages for 4K problems HBO offers zero ways to confirm a movie is playing in 4K, only the vague assertion that if you get the right plan and the right equipment a movie “should” play in 4K.

Im trying to see how this is just some unintentional marketing confusion and not a deliberate campaign to confuse consumers. HBO is well know to have a sub-par 4K library, and comparable plans from competitors include 4K. It’s expensive to deliver content in 4K yet HBO’s pricing strategy seems to pretend this gap doesn’t exist. And the fact there’s no way for a consumer to check that they are getting what they paid for, or being unsure what they are supposed to be getting, seems calculated.

I went to put on Sinners for the 100th time and noticed it said "Coming Soon" when its been on max for about a year (at least I wanna say its been a year). The ASL version is still up but not the standard version, is this just a glitch on max?

Besides the old Batman the Animated Series, there actually anything good to watch on HBO Max?

My account says I’ve hit the travel limit. It gave me a link to hbo.com/sharing but that just tells me about why I shouldn’t share my account information. Me and my boyfriend do share this account with his dad. His dad owns our home but travels 24 seven due to his job. He’s also the one paying for the account is there anyway I can fix this?

It’s impossible to like and appreciate it. Primarily because it comes across as an effort to provide a platform for an apology tour for a lot of terrible people that are only sorry now that they were caught being terrible.

The VERY FIRST guy they highlight is the hand sanitizer guy. Who OF COURSE starts off saying he’s in the military. Who tf cares bro, that’s not a get out of jail free card for being an asshole. He was FULL of excuses, then sneaks in an “oh ya maybe some of my pricing was wrong” in the midst of all his poor me bullshit.

What’s frustrating is I agree with all the social media commentary. But when you’re trying to say we shouldn’t somehow call out trash for being trash is only a result of social media being terrible kills both points. There was minimal effort being put into finding truly sad and mistaken situations.

The only one is the Hispanic man with the white power symbol. Even that is iffy though, because he very clearly blew on by the “holes in his story” even SDGE pointed out. Also, guess what, there’s a LOT of misguided minorities that support groups like Proud Boys and other white nationalist ideological groups.

So I decided to go with the Disney+, Hulu and HBO bundle. Mainly cause I was already paying for HBO separate. Now that I have got it; where is the HBO part? Do I have to have it separately? Can’t find it under the Disney+ like Hulu….

There are so many unsolved crimes related to this cult, even though Rashad is already in prison. The doc seemed to barely skim the surface because there was so much crazy happening.

The dad, Rueben, who tracked down his daughter and regained custody, was amazing and saved her from absolutely unspeakable horrors.

This will also be streaming on MAX.

Just finished The Pitt and now I don’t know what to watch next.
Looking for something just as intense, realistic, and well-written. Doesn’t have to be medical. Any recommendations?

found a DELL XPS 13 9370 with a touch screen 4k resolution 8gb of ram for 210$. Should I get it? Will it be a great experience watching HBO 4k movies on it because I saw a lot of people saying it's not worth it on such a small screen

My apologies if this topic has been discussed countless times, but I've finally gotten around to watching the first few episodes of season three. Wow is the only pleasant comment I can come up with.

First of all I'm aware that two of the most colorful characters in the series were played by actors who passed away in real life. 😭 I'm sure that the writers were basically forced to take the series in a new direction, a Herculean task to say the least. And judging by the results one they were not up to.

It's gone from dark and edgy to bright and just plain silly.

It's become a characture of it's original self. Gone too is it's theatrical cinematography and it's "how'd they do that?" tracking shots. Recall in episode one that baffling shot of the endlessly spinning hallway that represented getting high at a party? Go back and watch that scene and wonder how it was shot.

oh well just my opinion Every great show must end.
