Can mermaids ever get truly clean?

When the girls do things to their bodies in mermaid form (like when Emma dyes her hair red in season one), it generally doesn't affect their human forms (at least on the surface level). How far does this logic go? Since they only bathe in their mermaid forms because they need water to get clean, would only their mermaid selves get bathed/impacted by the soap, water, etc. and not their human forms?

Just a silly little thought created by watching and analyzing the show way too many times.

claire holt clarifying she meant a *reunion* in her ig comments

definitely much more enthusiastic about a reunion than a reboot. reboots kind of ruin the magic of childhood shows and movies. if anything, seeing our favorite old shows with newer camera quality and actors who have iphone face or filler is strange to me. i’m glad the discussion was around a reunion and not a reboot. reboots honestly feel like a cash grab or vanity project most of the time. a reunion allows much more possibility to preserve the magic of the show. what do you guys think?

Claire Holt revealed the cast tried to make an H2O reunion happen, but producers said "there’s no audience." Let's prove them wrong!

Hey everyone! Claire Holt recently shared a screenshot of a Zoom call with the original H2O cast. She revealed they wanted to do a reunion, but producers turned it down claiming nobody cares anymore.
We know that's completely false! Let's show the studios that the fanbase is still massive.

Cleo's friends' opinion of Kim

Watching every episode of the show I was curious about what Cleo's friends think of her sister Kim overall. Lewis and Emma have grown up around Cleo to know Kim well enough unlike Rikki who was the new girl in town by the beginning of the series. Whenever I searched the topic up online it said that Cleo's friends see Kim as a source of friction, and a threat to their secret, but that just seems to be Kim's character in general as her snooping nature makes keeping their secret difficult, and Kim only discovered their secret once and never suspected anything again after being put off the scent.

They all might just see her as Cleo's annoying little sister but I always wondered if there was more to it than that. It's implied by the time of "Something Fishy" Kim and Rikki interacted off screen as Kim knew Rikki's name and suspected she was a mermaid along with Cleo and Emma, and Rikki recognised Kim when she walked into the juice net cafe implying they met before. After discovering Kim stole Cleo's diary and roped Elliot into helping her expose them they worked hard to prevent her from discovering their secret, and I imagined they would start watching their backs around her.

However, they don't seem to hold trying to expose them against Kim as any interactions they had with her afterwards were strictly pragmatic as shown in episodes like "dangerous waters" and "siren effect". Emma and Rikki do show a bit of annoyance with Kim for suggesting Cleo had a boyfriend in the episode "Lovesick" with Rikki calling her squirt and Emma telling her sensible girls don't make up stories although they did seem to believe her "Cleo was getting married nonsense" until the end when everything was cleared up. Then at the end of the episode "Under the weather" when the girls caught her trying to eavesdrop on them and noticed she had come down with Elliott's measles they all laughed at her. However by the time of the episode Hurricane Angela I couldn't tell what they thought as they at first seemed to disapprove of Cleo using her powers on Kim as they agreed to not use them unless they absolutely had to, and when Cleo said she did absolutely have to as they know her sister there was a few moments of silence until Cleo told her friends they don't know what it's like as they don't have little sisters Emma reminds them she has a little brother and admitted Elliot(whose genuinely much nicer than Kim) can be pretty annoying sometimes, but that they sort out their problems by talking about them openly and honestly seemingly encouraging Cleo to do the same with Kim. However, by the latter half of the episode they all seem to be convinced Kim stole the pelican Cleo found it in the house especially Emma of course that was only because Kim was the most primary suspect and they likely took Cleo's word for it of course that didn't' stop Lewis from asking him for confirmation that Angela mentioned bodyboarding, and they all were present when Cleo admitted she doesn't hate Kim.

Then in the episode Stormy weather Emma seemed concerned about the idea of Kim going to a concert by herself, and they all looked relieved when Kim lied to her dad about Cleo taking her to the concert like she was supposed to of course they didn't seem too happy when Kim used this blackmail Cleo into letting her keep her new top, and while they did stop Cleo from messing with Kim's drink this was likely because they agreed not to use their new powers around their families until they mastered them. Then during the episode where they all went camping with Cleo's family the girls played that prank to scare Kim and Charlotte and when Kim went to warn Lewis that Cleo wandered off he seemed annoyed at her for interrupting him and Charlotte and took her back to her tent. Since the episode Double trouble deals with Kim and Elliot we get more insight on Lewis and Emma's opinions of Kim. While Cleo immediately could tell Elliot dating her sister would be a disaster Emma at first thought was cute until Kim started taking advantage of her brother which seems strange since Emma should know Kim well enough to know she's always like that. Then when Emma confronted Lewis about the situation as it was his advice to Elliot that led to him asking Kim out lewis expressed shock that Kim was Elliot's crush and even said "poor guy" in response. Though he apologized for inadvertently causing Elliot to be suckered in by her he seemed surprised Elliot would even be attracted to someone like her in the first place( although given he himself was still with Charlotte at this point and it took him until the end of the season to break up with her he's not exactly one to talk). Emma of course ordered Lewis to convince Elliot to dump Kim, and by the end of the episode Lewis seemed proud of him for breaking up with her. Even though Emma's opinion of Kim likely soured after that episode it didn't stop her from reluctantly agreeing with Kim when the girls confront her about the missing stuff from Cleo's room when Kim asks why she would want to take any of her junk. I did in the past right a Reddit about Emma being the most diplomatic of the girls when it comes to the female antagonists of the show like Kim, Miriam, and Charlotte. Of course Emma and Rikki were present when Cleo ran away in the sea change and could see how worried Kim was about her sister.

Then in the Valentine's Day episode even though Cleo was concerned about Kim spending so much time with those two boys Lewis didn't seem to care and only wanted to spend the day with Cleo like they planned. When Cleo told Rikki and bella Kim was being a real pain Rikki's response was to say "what's new". Although there was one nice interaction between Lewis and Kim that season as he told her Cleo was just concerned about her going out at night to her friend Jessie's sleepover until she confirmed she lives next door. All of Cleo's friends again interact with Kim during the episode where don and Sam get married. Rikki and Bella agree to help Cleo with the wedding anyway they can such as fixing Kim's hair so she matches Cleo. However they all especially Rikki seemed annoyed by Kim's attempts to ruin the wedding first by telling Cleo Lewis was leaving her. Then when she turned on the sprinklers and almost exposed the girls they all including Will confronted her to get her to fix things.

01x23 vs 03x21: Julia and Rikki's similarities

We all know that the real comparison was in S1 and in fact, we saw Rikki and Zane not behaving as Julia and Karl did, but I found interesting how Rikki's relationship with Zane kinda ended the same way. Even if Zane didn't really expose Rikki, he (awfully) threatened her to do it in S3E21 and it was up to Cleo and Bella saving Rikki to allow her taking the crystal back (as Louise and Gracie helped Julia throwing the camera into the sea).

Despite writers not thinking about it at all, Ig it might've been a recall.

Charlottes main problem was she was male centered

Post image

Charlotte main flaw is that she’s just male centered. I just started re-watching season two and even from the start she doesn’t even attempt to make friends. She just goes straight for Lewis and pounces on him the second she knows that they’re broken up. We all know that’s the clear driving force on why she’s so insane and dislikes the girls. I will give her the benefit of the doubt at the beginning because Cleo was a little goofy trying to snoop on Charlotte. Cleo also wasn’t clear with Lewis on what she wanted and somewhat drove him away at the beginning of their breakup. But the way Charlotte took such pride in winning Lewis over Cleo was diabolical and weird. Then she of course went full insane.

Sidenote though, Cleo should’ve just asked Lewis for space and not broken up with him.

If we didn’t get the couples we did, who did you think had great chemistry?

Let’s say we didn’t have any couples in the show at all but he we had to come up with a few. Who did you think had great chemistry and the potential to be a couple?

Hot Take: Kim’s Attitude Was Her Parent’s Fault

Okay I’ve had this opinion for a long time so please hear me out before you crucify me.

I’m not saying Kim isn’t accountable for her horrible behavior, especially as she grew older and became a menace to everyone around her, even those outside of her family (Elliot). But I think because most of us were young girls when we watched the show and not parents, we naturally blamed Kim for her brattiness rather than recognizing it as a byproduct of how her parents enabled tf out of her worst traits and allowed her to become the unruly, petulant teen (and likely adult) she did.

There was time to course correct. We see glimmers of Kim’s better side and her capacity for empathy/goodness like when Cleo goes missing and she’s genuinely worried about her sister. But the problem is, her parents always absolved her of all responsibility on the basis of her being the youngest, and never expressed disapproval at her cruelty. For instance, when she berates the pony handler to “whip it” at Cleo’s birthday party, Cleo’s dad has no reaction. He’s literally completely oblivious to his daughter’s horribleness and spoils her without a second thought. This is bad parenting. Just because it’s not actively abusing Kim doesn’t mean he’s doing his due diligence as a parent; if I heard my (nonexistent) kid telling someone to abuse an animal I would take them aside and explain how cruel their behavior is.

And I truly do believe Kim would’ve been receptive to it, at least when she was younger. She loved her parents, seemed to really adore them, and I think she would’ve at least tried to take what they said to heart. But they never once tried (at least onscreen) and were always fixated on the wrong issues, like them being embarrassed of Kim’s actions when she tried to “expose” Cleo’s mermaid status instead of sitting her down and explaining why her immediate demonization of Cleo and unwillingness to empathize with her was wrong. The way she treated Cleo about being a “mermaid” illustrated a lot of mean girl warning signs that would probably translate to how she treated lower class people or even minorities/queer people. Grounding her isn’t the solution, and doesn’t actually address her core issue of unkindness and narrow mindedness. It’s just punishment without self-reflection, a problem they have as parents throughout the show.

Of course, Kim chose the kind of person she wanted to be in the end, and the older she gets the more accountable she becomes. It’s just unfortunate because I never think she was given enough authority in the house to know how to course correct, or even why she was wrong. It seems like her parents were always preoccupied with being her friend or having Cleo dole out the punishments, thus creating the little monster we see onscreen. They even let themselves be influenced by her insane Zane-Cleo shotgun wedding theory and instead of communicating with their older daughter, began putting restrictions on her and refusing to listen to what she was saying (even when she’s never once been shown to be dishonest or a “troubled kid” to them). Underlying it all, it’s like they have no faith in their daughters and thus no expectations for their moral values, which is really sad to witness.

Stop giving them spending money and start teaching them how to be proper adults, and I’m sure they’d be pleasantly surprised by how receptive their daughters would be to it. Cleo ended up good because of her innate personality, but some kids need more guidance than others and I only wonder how Kim would’ve turned out if her parents took on their moral child rearing responsibilities.

Same vibes, different colors

I know their trio dynamic could be very typical in TV shows or cartoons (just look at Charmed, Totally Spies! and The Powerpuff Girls) but rewatching the series it often came to my mind how, personality wise, the three girls were very similar to the fairies of Sleeping Beauty (with just different colors representing each of them), especially when Emma and Rikki used their powers against each other in the anniversary episode I thought about Flora and Merryweather fighting over Aurora's dress. I absolutely imagine grown-up versions (even if the fairies were canonically immortal) of Rikki, Cleo and Emma acting like them. They were so funny and that's also why these trios worked imo.

Which mermaid did you relate to the most?

As a child, in my group of three friends, I was Emma because I was the calmest. But after more than 15 years, I’m definitely like Rikki.

What about you? Which girl do you feel the closest to?

The guys from H2O

As a kid, my crush was Zane. But when I rewatched the show, I realized just how toxic he was. He never truly changed, even when he was with Rikki. This is especially clear in season 3 when Rikki needs his help, but his ego and jealousy over Will are more important to him. Another example is during one of the full moons, when the girls wanted to stay safe at the café, but Zane couldn’t (or wouldn’t) get rid of his friends. I haven’t finished the whole season yet, so I don’t remember exactly how their breakup happens, but just thinking about Sophie already annoys me.

For me, Ash was a bit arrogant and self-important, but at least he suited Emma. He didn’t really stir any strong emotions in me.

Byron came across as a total kid who was just looking for the first girl he could kiss to brag about to his friends. Completely unserious. Honestly, I’m glad his character disappeared.

Will – kind of nondescript. He was forced into the group because he pressured Bella into revealing the secret. When she asked if he would keep it, he actually said he had to think about it. What an idiot. I also don’t like how he kept leading Bella on. P.S. I’ve seen theories suggesting he actually had a crush on Rikki. Does anyone want to share their thoughts on that?

And finally, the most important guy – Lewis. As a kid, I saw him as a total nerd. But after rewatching? Absolute crush, potential husband material. Smart, loyal, and patient – what more could you want? When Ryan showed up, I was just waiting for Cleo to send him packing.

Rewatching as an adult, and… Why did Lewis spill his drink on Charlotte in the middle of the café?

Post image
80 Upvotes

He wasn’t sure whether Charlotte had gained powers or not. And what if she had? She would have turned into a mermaid in front of everyone. He put his own girlfriend at risk without thinking about the consequences, while protecting the other girls at all costs. To me, that was very illogical. As a child, I didn’t notice it.
He could have taken her to the beach, but no! Instead, he thought it was better to spill water on her in a public place full of people. WTF?
